My Question or Issue
Suddenly I'm unable to use spotify connect on my desktop and somehow I'm able to play 2 simultaneous music streams, 1 from my phone and 1 from my desktop whereas normally I could play only one across both devices. My spotify desktop account is just bugged and it doesn't sync with discord either to show my music in my status. Even last.fm doesnt read my scrobbles properly and is missing a lot of stuff
I've tried everything. Reinstalled on both devices. Gone offline for 10 minutes and turned off offline mode. Revoked all app permissions and even signed out of all my devices. It's like a new account at this point and yet I can't get the desktop app version to sync. It is also a premium account. Any help largely appreciated.

Hey @konigzitrone,
Thanks for the reply.
This issue appears to be device specific, as you've already confirmed.
Did you notice when this started happening by any chance? This can help pinpoint the issue and if possible revert any changes that might have caused this.
Let us also know if you have tried running the app as administrator?
There must be something on the computer itself, like a firewall or another service limiting the possibility of the desktop app to have a real-time connection to the servers.
Keep us posted on how you get on with this.
It's been like this for the past month but I haven't really changed or installed anything that would interfere with spotify. If you could please tell me if there are any drivers I need to update specifically or tell me what apps or service may interfere then I will uninstall those and check again.
I just added a new firewall rule that allows all inbound and outbound connections for Spotify.exe but still it's not working properly.
Also has the spotify directory always been under appdata?
Hi @konigzitrone,
Thanks for the info.
It is possible that there is some sort of application that controls connections on your PC. This can be any type of Firewall or system administration/tracking software. They usually block certain networking ports associated with multimedia, which can affect Spotify even if the app itself is allowed as an exception through the firewall.
Try launching the pc in Safe Mode - if the app works okay then, then they should test out how Spotify behaves with other settings on these software.
Hope this helps.
I can't use Wifi when in safe mode with networking since my wifi card just doesn't function. So there's no way for me to do that unfortunately. No idea what else could be causing this. Is there a way for the people on your end to at least be able to check if my Laptop is showing up as an active device?
Hi again @konigzitrone,
Thanks for keeping in touch.
We're afraid that there's no way to check that on our end. Since this issue is isolated to your device and we can't know for sure what's causing it, we're afraid we won't be able to further investigate it. We suggest to keep using the web player in the meantime.
If you have any questions or need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.
Cheers.
Ok but web player bitrate is limited to 256kbps and I can definitely hear the compression for some songs so I guess **bleep** it I'll stick to the desktop app and hope spotify magically fixes it. Thanks for the help.
Hey @Reydelosnaldos,
Thanks for reaching out.
Could you give us some more info about your setup (make, model, OS version and Spotify version) and what exactly happens at your end? The more details we have about your experience, the quicker we'll get to the bottom of this. A recording or screenshots would be particularly useful.
We'd appreciate it if you also list the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far and the results. That way we can avoid suggesting something you might have already tried.
Keep us posted.
So I decided to re-install windows once again. And wow it works again. idk what changed with this specific reinstall but everything's synced I just hope it stays this way!
Hey @konigzitrone,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
We're glad to hear that things are now working as they should.
If anything else comes up, you know where to find us.
Have a lovely day 🙂
i have the same problem. how do you reinstall windows
Hey @Flowvw,
Thanks for your reply.
In this case, if you're having inconveniences with the app in your computer, you can follow the steps in this article to perform a clean reinstall. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the cache is not leading to any inconvenience.
If the above doesn't do the trick, would you mind sending us the make/model and exact OS of your computer along with the Spotify version you're running?
Lastly, do you notice if this started to happen after a specific event, such as a OS update? If yes, please send us the details.
Keep us in the loop!
Hey,
The problem still happens even after a clean reinstall.
I am currently running version Spotify for Windows 1.2.6.863.ge7902f05 on a Windows 10 Pro
Version Spotify for Windows 1.2.5.1006.g22820f93 works perfectly fine (i installed this version and the problem is gone, although spotify will automatically update and put me on the newer one to break it again), it appears the new update messed up my system.
Let me know what else needs to be done!
