Songs are buffering extremely slowly, searches take forever, downloading songs for offline use take too long. Whats going on guys? About to cancel if this doesn't get fixed, i've seen others say the same.
Definitely not poor programming, they are probably some of the best in the world. Its very difficult to build and maintain a service as complex as thiers, especially a browser based service.
For me the desktop software is indeed very slow when I try to listen to my whole library and do something else like playlist editing at the same time. But I can accept that, because simply playing everything in the "My Library" folder in shuffle mode still works smoothly and is very entertaining, as it contains all my converted Last.fm playlists, tag radios and listening history as well as the few playlists I originally created on Spotify which sum up to about 43k tracks.
If I want to edit an existing playlist or search for something new to add, I have to stop the playback of that large folder though or better restart the desktop software to unload the folder content from the Play Queue, otherwise I would have to wait about 1:30 min for each new song starting and blocking access to e.g. the editing functions. During these 1:30 min with each new song nothing else than listening is possible with the desktop software which can of course drive you mad if you don't know how to change that behaviour. So it's a good thing that I don't have to edit my playlists too often. 😉
I have had the same exact problem and it's bugging me. I thought Spotify was awesome but now not so much.
It is still very very VERY slow, to start up especially. Sooooo bored of it. And as a premium customer I expected it wouldn't last too long before they fixed it but zzzzzz been more than a year I think.. I have a mac pro and this app is the slowest on my computer.

Same problem here. Does anyone know why they don't fix it? It must be damaging the business.
Solution here?
I desynced local files, and deleted most of my playlists (I had plenty, 30+)
I find the program faster now.
desde la ultima actualizacion anda muy lento
I'm having the same problem with the Spotify player. It takes forever to load and there is sometimes a 3-5 min lag between songs of dead air. It's become almost impossible to use.
Updated to the newest Spotify version on my laptop (Windows 10) and it now takes roughly 2-4 minutes to load everything, which is abnormal. It also takes a while to load radio stations, I get the thinking wheel for a few minutes on each start up....and even then for about 10 minutes the minimized window will be blank instead of artist & song title. 😞
Extraordinary. Why on Earth don't they fix it?
I have a solution that works for me, which is to use the Linux version of the Spotify client. The performance is excellent.
This will probably only be of use to people running Linux.
The Linux client is rather old, and so can take a little effort to setup, but its worth it. There is useful information about how to do this at:
http://linuxconfig.org/installation-of-spotify-client-on-debian-linux-8-jessie-64-bit
I used to run the Windows client under Wine on Linux, but the performance became so bad as to make it unusable.
Please answer: Why are you guys using this horrible, buggy, slow, clunky, ugly version? (0.9.8....+)
It helps to load Spotify automatically when the PC starts.
Then it seems to pre-load much of what you need (playlists etc.) in the background the first few minutes.
Temporary solution? Sucks if it has to stay that way.
Yeah, that's not a solution at all. You're just moving the app's sluggishness to a different point in time instead of when you open it. I try to have as few apps as possible starting themselves upon Windows boot for this exact reason and I don't need Spotify slowing down my PC every time I turn it on.
Hello,
I got a new phone (iphone 4s) so i downloaded the Spotify app...however my music is downloading extremely slowly (as in 3 songs in three hours) and I don't know what is happening. I have Fiber, more than enough data storage on my phone, and Spotify in only two devices. I would appriciate the help!
This becoming a major problem in my point of view. Spotify is very very slow and from update to update nothing is done to solve this problem. No matter where i use spotify rather it is on my phone (android) or on my computer, it remain slow. This is not a personnal issue anymore.
The first thing who come to my miind about Spotify is slowliness rather that music..
Sometimes, It take up to seven-eigth minutes to have everything visible on the Windows Interface of Spotify. I know that 7-8 minute is not long in a life. but it remains not acceptable as something decent to use.
This seems to be a well known and very common problem. I can't understand why Spotify don't fix it. Does anyone have a phone number for Spotify?
I'm also a paid member. I tried loading my albums saved about 7 minutes ago and still nothing but the thinking wheel.
