Spotify app for PC won't open

Okay, I've been having this problem for a few weeks now and it's really getting strange. I've tried everything I could find online but the only thing that's worked is using an old direct download from 2015, but even then, upon restarting my PC Spotify won't open and requires another reinstall (again, only of this version which immediately updates to a newer software). I've tried deleting my AppData folders, clearing the cache etc but nothing has worked. I occasionally get error 17 when using the download from Spotify's website. It seems no matter how I delete or reinstall, the software is stuck in some kind of limbo.

The quick fix that just worked for this issue, at least for now.

Right click the Spotify shortcut > properties > compatibility tab

Click the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" I selected Windows 7, Windows 8 didn't work for me.

Make sure to click apply before closing the tab! It's been smooth sailing since.
