Spotify crashes when adding/removing tracks from playlist

Solved!

Spotify crashes when adding/removing tracks from playlist

So I'm listening to a Radio, a song comes up that I want to add to a playlist, I click on teh album art and select add to playlist select the playlist then BAM music stops, dissapears. I'm rocking a W7 with plenty of memory (8core) NO reason for it to crash.

Also went to play Que to add the song Still crashes

If you can help it would be appreciated cause I'm getting angry.

So it seems that either an update or a clean reinstall would likely (hopefully?) solve the sudden CTD problem.

But I can't seem to get the update installer nor the full installer to d'load.  About half the attempts (the direct links I've seen posted up the thread a bit) result in File Not Found errors, the automatic d'load results consistently in "C:\Documents and Settings\Jon\My Documents\Downloads\SpotifySetup(1).exe could not be saved, because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location."

which is problematic at least on WinXP since I'm getting no option to dictate where the file is saved.

Umm ... help?

Is it possible to try using a different browser @JonsThreeCents and also temporarily disable your anti-virus or security software.

There is a (1) in your file name because there is another file in that folder with the same file name.  Try deleting both the original and any partially downloaded files.  Depending on your browser, these may be in a temp folder somewhere.  Use Ccleaner to clear your browser cache and all temp files and folders.  That should fix your problem.

re: that "1"

That's because the first attempt delivered a 0kb "download".  I've subsequently cleared the d'load folder, still no luck.

Ditto with attempting to d'load "SpotifySetup.exe" via Chrome, the 94.6 kb file immediately shows as "interrupted" and retrying the download produces the same result repeatedly.  And anti-virus (Avast) is disabled while trying.

For whatever reason, I literally cannot seem to d'load the file, my computer just flatly refuses.  (Been a regular user for more than a year, never had a problem with any updates before this).

Don't run the 96kb installer 'helper.'  Run the full installer.

Doggone it, I thought sure you had squared me away with that link.  D'loaded the whole thing to the final 0.1 MB ... and then got "C:\Documents and Settings\Jon\Desktop\Spotify Installer.exe could not be saved, because an unknown error occurred.
Try saving to a different location"

how do i stop getting email updates from this topic?

Almost sounds as if the folder is Read Only.  Check that first.  Have you tried another location?  Create a new folder, say, C:\Temp

I will also guess that the file is saved somewhere as a temp file.  Browse to your browser's cache folders and look around.

Rollo, you're a doggoned genius 🙂

The notion of "Win XP defaults folders to Read-Only" didn't cross my mind.  A new folder (which still displays as grayed-out Read Only but apparently really isn't) AND disabling the AV yet again (which didn't help on any previous attempt) and ... voila, exe saved properly, worked properly and I'm now v0.9.4.069

If I get booted while trying to edit a playlist after this, the next sound you'll hear is a very long pained scream 😉

My sincere thanks to everyone who helped, this was making me more than a little nuts.

First time I've seen "doggoned" used not once but twice in the same forum thread.  Ever.

I've found it to be more socially acceptable than what I would have usually used in that situation 😉

Given that I posted some strong criticism earlier on this thread, I think it only right to give some more feedback.

My Spotify Windows desktop client updated automatically a few days after the fix was rolled out so that I am now at version 0.9.4.169.gc0399df6.

(I couldn't copy and paste that version number from the about window so I may have made a slight typo in there somewhere).

I've been using the application for a few days now since the update and so far so good. I have not experienced a client crash since the update whilst doing things that were previously making it crash.

I am pleased to say that I am beginning to regain confidence in the Spotify client.

Thank you Spotify team for fixing this problem.

@moonglum101 - Thats good to hear! Also for future reference normally just clicking on the version number will copy it to your clipboard 😉

Ah, so it does, thank you. I feel ashamed for not spotting that 🙂

Disappointed that you guys still haven't issued credit to Spotify Premium members.

@SalsaShark - Did you email customer services and ask for one?

I have never just seen Spotify give out premium credit.

So not only did the latest update resolve the issue with modifying the playlist, it also fixed the odd behaviour when starting from start menu that I don't think was mentioned (or maybe not everyone had it).

When you click to start a program in the start-menu, the menu is supposed to go away by itself, as a confirmation that you've started the program I guess. Prior to the latest update, this would not happen, making me think it wouldn't launch, resulting in another click, which in turn resulted in the spotify is already running (or has already been started or whatever it said, I forget)-popup - but like I said, since the last update, this was fixed together with the adding/deleting-issue. I wonder if they were related or if it was something that was discovered by coincedence...

Either way - thank you for resolving these issues 🙂

So Im running Version 0.9.1.55.gbdd3b79f on Linux. been noticing crashes today when I Star a song and then add to an existing playlist. MOST Interestingly:

I started starring a song on the linux application and then adding it to my playlist with the mobile android app. that worked mostly, but just now adding a song to my playlist while on android CAUSED the linux application to crash- was pretty wild.

I emailed customer service, pinged their Twitter account and messaged them on Facebook.  No response all the way around--typical.

So...that tells me what Spotify thinks of its customers and it's unfortunately too common with growing tech companies.

I'm glad they fixed the problem, but I'm bummed that they did it at my expense.  Good thing the competition's out there and offering services on par with Spotify.

be patient.
