My Question or Issue

As the title says, whenever I lock my screens at work, the current playlist will pause after a minute or so, and then reset to a random song in the playlist and also reset the shuffle. We play a works playlist in the office, so when this shuffle resets we end up listening to the same songs over again. Initially, I had the issue that everytime I locked my screen the playing defaulted to "Radio based on *********", but somebody advised me to turn off "Play recommended songs" which stopped the Radio from playing, but started the issue mentioned above. Haven't managed to find any posts with this specific issue, so am hoping that somebody will have experienced this and may possibly have a solution?

TIA

Hi there @jcroke_,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. We're happy to help.

Can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

Another useful step to try is to remove all lines from your hosts file. You can do that by following the steps bellow:

  1. Open Notepad as an administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
  2. go to File - Open and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open
  4. When the file is open, you will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like 0.0.0.0 website.com127.0.0.1 website2.com
  5. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address. Examples may look like: 0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com0.0.0.0
  6. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  7. Save your changes and restart Spotify

Keep us posted 🙂

Take care!

Hi Jeremy,

So I tried all of the above but no dice I'm afraid. May also be worth mentioning that there have been times where I've come back into the office (screens locked) with the music still playing as normal, and it's only when I try to unlock my screens that the music cuts out & I open Spotify to see that it is playing from this "Radio" even though I've turned playing recommended songs off. Attached a picture of the listing that has most recently started as of the last time this issue happened, none of the songs listed are from the playlist. Could it also be worth mentioning that, as I think we run off of a secured network, there is no synergy between the Windows app & other devices (iOS etc), as in I am able to play off of my works computer when in work and my phone independently? Not sure if that would factor into this issue, but may help.

Hi again @jcroke_,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Having a secure network can be the cause of this. However we'd like to try some more troubleshooting.

Can you confirm if the app is from the play store or from our website here?

Another useful step to do is to change password and log out everywhere from your account page.

Keep us posted.

Cheers!

Hi Jeremy,

Sorry, didn't see the notification for this reply. I can confirm that the app was downloaded directly from the website, and have tried full log-outs but no dice!

Cheers,

Josh

Hey again @jcroke_,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation 🙂

Can you log in with a different account - such as a friend's or a family member's to see if the issue persist? This will help us understand if it's account related or not.

Also, can you let us know which version of the app you have?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Cheers!

Hi Jeremy,

Unfortunately I don't have access to another Spotify account to try with, but as the issue doesn't occur with my other devices could it still be account related?
The current version installed is 1.1.59.712.g54f36e5d-a.
Also, we've realised that every time the playlist stops while my screens are locked, it always starts playing the same song, which is probably just coincidence but interesting.

Cheers for all the help, starting to think it is just to do with the secured connection haha!

Hey @jcroke_,

Thanks for the reply.

The issue might be account related and only show on your computer. It would be great if you can make a new free account for test purposes and check if you get the same behaviour from the app.

Could you also send us the URI/Link to the song that the playlists default to?

Cheers.
