Hello,
I've got a problem with playing local files in spotify. After each song it stops playing. This weirdly enough is only the case for local songs and not for steamed songs.
I think it might have something to do with a windows update. When I found out, two days ago, I recovered my system to the state before the windows update, and then it worked again. Last night it automatically updated windows and same problem of not continuous playing occured again.
Someone with a solution? It is really annoying!
Cheers!

new version 0.8.8.454 still no fix..........................................
I think I may have found a workaround if anyone else would like to know it. If you add a few or all of the songs in a playlist to the queue it will actually play the next song automatically!
Also only seems to work if crossfade is off
I have a new problem. As stated before, version 0.6.2. had been working for me. It played songs (local and non-local) continually. Not any more. 😞
I have tried updating to the newest version of Spotify, but that just doesn't work. I still can't play local songs in playlists on the newest version.
What happens now with version 0.6.2. is that near the end of the song, around the 85-90% mark, the track will suddenly stop. If left this way, playback will not resume. If I click on any random area in the Spotify program, playback will resume and the next track will immediately start playing.
The strangest thing is that it's not actually 85 or 90% of the song as it is displaying. It's the actual end of the song, but the progress bar seems to get stuck at that point for some odd reason.
I've also noticed that when Spotify is playing in the background or when I have another program running on top of it, the progress bar no longer moves until I open the Spotify window on top again.
It might have something to do with the built-in ads to the right of the screen? Sometimes those don't load either. When an ad is placed over the playlist, the song also stops playing...
EDIT: This problems seems to have been fixed now that I deleted a huge new playlist I had added yesterday. Is there a limit for the amount of songs allowed per playlist?
I just get more and more irritated with ~workaround suggestions and fix-it suggestions.
this is a problem for a lot of people and has been for a long time, and as far as I can tell spotify is doing absolutly **bleep**-all to fix it. what we've had is requests to provide more information about versions etc, which we have done, and a spotify employee telling us he can't reproduce the error. no updates, no responses as to if this is even being taken seriously or if it's being dismissed as user-end issues. I feel like it's the latter right now. despite none of the suggestions for a fix have worked (drivers, codecs, settings, file formats, permissions etc etc).
I am an unhappy customer.
Disregard yesterday's edit to my last post. It is still acting up. Sometimes it will play my local files continuously, but most of the time I have to reopen the Spotify window and click on it so that it "unfreezes" and starts playing the next song.
I'd gotten past the irritation of having to use a previous version of Spotify just to be able to listen to my music, and now even this version is failing. Why isn't anybody taking action on this?
I'm with nell on this one... Another unsatisfied customer here.
I have this problem too, nothing suggested in this thread or in the emails I got have worked. The autoplay problem only affects mp3's, other formats work normally. Just wanted to make a post here so that the people in Spotify realize how many people are stuck with this hassle.
same **bleep**, different version.
but hey - at least the playlist font is bigger now...
When are Spotify going to take a look at this?
For me the problem is just getting worse and worse for every f**king update released. Earlier the problem only occurred sometimes when playing local files, but after the latest update (0.9.0.117.g93e0429c) it stops after every local file.
If it was something wrong with the files I shouldn't be able to play the songs at all, but if I change song and immediately change back to the one that it stopped on it will play the song.
It doesn't matter where the files are stored, I have tried moving them around from my NAS, external drive connected with USB and internal SATA disk.
I have this issue; I set overlapping (cause I hate intro's & outro's) and now at random songs it stops at ~2-3 seconds playing. (actually the song doesn't start) I'm 100% sure that i'm not connected somewhere else.
If there are reall fixes would be handy if OP editted his post 🙂 thx !
for some people, turning crossfade off will fix it.
but for most of us - nothing fixes it. least of all spotify itself (ohohoho feel the burn)
well, the one spotify person who actually paid this thread any attention apparently "no longer works for the community".
... it's nice to know the problem is being taken seriously.
I've got the same problem as everyone here. Hopefully they will find what's wrong..
Same problem, no fix, each iteration of any app, be it mobile or desktop, gets worse and worse.
They won't get their act together. They are more concernd about getting Spotify on anything with a processor and a pair of speakers. They don't care for paying customers because we already forked over our cash. Spotify is quickly becoming the EA of music and I am resenting the hell out of it. I seriously never fell from absolutely loving a product to despising a product that quickly. In many countries, they are the only proper streaming service and they darn well know it. So why should they care. It's not like we could go somewhere else.
Please, Spotify, I beseech you... don't be iTunes!
Same issue as everybody else and I've tried numerous codec versions with no luck.
I really don't understand how something as annoying as this has not been addressed instead of adding some **bleep**ty new feature that nobody wanted in the first place.
I've been having this trouble for months as well. I tried the suggestions in this thread including a bunch of different mp3 codecs to try to fix it, all to no avail. Today I installed version 0.8.2.610 and so far haven't had any of my local files get stuck when going to the next track. I've noticed on a few songs that are longer than what spotify thinks, but it's just a few seconds, and doesn't cause any playback issues, so it doesn't matter.
I'll update if the issue comes back for me.
Come on Spotify, get your act together...
Hello boys and girls,
Suffered from the same thing after I tried to 'cloud' my old mp3 collection. Copied everything to my dropbox and mapped my dropbox folder to Spotify. While it was downloading it did one or maybe a few more songs before it stopped. Now that it's done syncing/downloading it's much much better atleast. Not sure if it's all sorted just yet.
So, hot tip: see if the folder you're playing from is being affected or updated by something else..
Sorry.. False alarm.. Still stops.
Well.. new update!
It seems it's stopping due to itunes m4a files... The files it stops at won't play in Spotify no matter how hard I try. WMP will play them fine. Can anybody confirm?
Installing mpeg4 Codec didn't do much.
Workaround: Move all iTunes m4a files out of your mapped local dir.
