Spotify will not update with elevated admin privileges

My Question or Issue

I tell spotify to run as an administrator so that a password is required to run the app.

Every week or so the desktop app tries to perform an automatic update, but never completes. the only thing I see is a progress bar that never finishes. I have to end the task in task manager otherwise, it will never shutdown if I tell it to, and it will never complete the update.

if I remove the administrator flag, the app launches as normal, and does not appear to update. reapplying the admin flag triggers the problem again, as I described.

The only work around I have found is to run the spotify installer again, which appears to apply the latest update. Admin flag then works as normal, until the app tries to auto update again.

I have replicated this issue on other similar machines, both on and off the same network. Is this intended behaviour?

Thanks for reaching out!

While we're trying to figure out a way for you to have the app up to date even if started with admin rights, could you try downloading the Spotify app from the Microsoft app store to see how it would behave? 
(In case you currently have the MS store version, download the one from our website instead)
