My Question or Issue

When i launch the program and start a song right away, it will start playing for 2-3 seconds and then i get a loop and second 2-3 are played again, but the song will not start  completely from the beginning, then it plays normally and so do all songs afterwards.

except if i choose another playlist for example and start another song manually, then it will happen again.

but also not always, sometimes it works sometimes not.

never seen this problem before, until i updated the porgram today.

is this a known issue? i couldnt find anything.

thanks

Hey hey! Same issue here!

Hey folks,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

@Magnuskarls, we're glad to know that everything looks fine after restarting the machine. That means that the issue could be related to temporary cache files stored.

If the issue is still persistent for some of you after restarting the device, we’d like to suggest a clean reinstall of the app as this is more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any temporary files that might be causing trouble.

In case that the clean reinstall and restarting doesn't do the trick, try to check in a different device such as a mobile device or tablet to see if it makes any difference.

Keep us posted.

Hey folks,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

We understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling. However, we’d like to suggest a clean reinstall as this is more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing this looping issue.

If the issue persists, include in your next response the Spotify version and OS version requested previously, along with the URI of one of the tracks that is having the issue.

We'll be on the lookout.

Clean reinstalled, moved the Spotify folder in %appdata% to a different drive, nothing. Still getting the problem.

I use Spotify on my laptop, never experienced the problem there.

it seems to happen in both versions. i tried most commen ways to fix this. none did the trick. so i think the client is simply bugged for window versions. (both microsoft and client versions.)

This bug has been happening to me as well. I also can confirm this issue started since the recent update we got on the 19th of March.

I've already tried to contact Spotify Support through their Twitter-care page but it doesn't seem like they listen to me much. I've described the issue to them and mentioned numerous times that this bug started because of the update they released to us, as it affected some of the desktop users as proven in this forum thread. They refused to acknowledge my reports on how the original cause of this problem is literally on their end, and they kept asking me to do unnecessary things with my PC like booting into safe mode, disabling my ad-blocker, etc.

I do understand that the staff may have a procedure to go through with each customer as it may be a computer hardware issue of some sort, but they completely ignored every single time I tried to tell them that this wasn't only happening to me and was re-occuring to select users using the Spotify Windows Program. I am not entirely sure if everybody has this bug but a quick google search of "spotify looping bug" will show several results and a good amount of people sharing this same annoying bug.

I really hope more Spotify mods look into this issue and report this bug to the corresponding teams responsible for fixing issues because its getting annoying how nobody is giving us as much help as we can get. I get that it may take time to reproduce this bug but I'm pretty sure a new update would just fix it. Please help us.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your replies!

Could you test the following:

  1. Fully close the Spotify app (make sure it's not running in the Task Manager) and go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\.
  2. There you'll find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Simply delete it.
  3. While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a Users folder. Open it and delete its contents as well. Note: if you have downloaded your playlists for offline use, you'll have to re-download them.
  4. Restart the Spotify app.

Let us know if the issue persists after that.

Cheers!

Hey everyone!

Thanks for keeping us posted and for the already provided information @Sparkles4 and @DarkAssassin29.

For those of you who haven't already given it a shot, could you perform a clean reinstall of the app to see if that makes any difference?
Remove the current app and then install the version from our website and let us know how it goes!

@JÁTÉKZÓNA, @21dejunio and @wwroberxx we'd need to know your Spotify versions, the platform you're experiencing this on and its OS.

We'll be on the lookout for your response!

Many thanks!

Hi Elena,

I've just reinstalled the application just like how you instructed, from the spotify website. It seems to me that this issue has now already been solved by doing that. The songs go perfectly again without any repeat. Everyone should try do the same.

Thanks for your help @Elena.

Hey @Regee123434,

Thank you for the info you've shared.

To keep investigating this further, could you include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running on your laptop?

Also, would you mind trying to download the Spotify app from the Microsoft store to see if it makes any difference? As this version is more specialized for Windows, it could improve some performance issues within the app.

We’ll be on the lookout.

Hey @Krish_Garg

Thanks for your reply.

Just to confirm, have you tried using a different internet connection?

On another note, we suggest that you check your firewall and antivirus software or apps to make sure Spotify is whitelisted or set as an exception.

Also, make sure to disable any VPNs, if in use.

Lastly, sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening would come in handy. You can attach it by using the Insert Video option in the post editor or uploading it to Google Drive and sharing the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

I tried all the steps mentioned, but after the app asked me to relogin, the problem STILL remains! Waiting for your reply, further instructions and a possible fix to this :')

Hey folks,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the information you've shared.

As many of you are reporting the app was installed from the web page, we'd recommend downloading the Microsoft store version as it could be more optimized for desktop clients using Windows.

Let us know if it makes any difference or if the issue is still persistent on the MS version. This will help us to investigate further.

We'll be on the lookout.

update on the thing, looks like playing the playlist normal is fine. so it seems to only be the repeat song function. (i reccomend others to test this out.)

Nah, I don't  have any repeat-functions on at it still stutters at the start.

Hi @unclerk

Thanks for your reply.

In this case, we suggest that you check your firewall and antivirus software or apps to make sure Spotify is whitelisted or set as an exception. Also, make sure to disable any VPNs, if in use.

Lastly, we'd recommend restarting your router to check if that makes the difference.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Same thing. It happens for both ways of downloading it.
If the application is the same build, then it will give out the same error no matter where you donwload it.

Hello. I'm also having this issue, however, unlike most people here, I use Windows 7, and my Spotify version is 1.1.81.604.gccacfc8c.

To add, at least in my device, the song will only loop if: it's on repeat or if you've selected it to play. If the song is waiting on a playlist's queue, it will play normally without looping or any other issue. However, if the song is, as previously stated, on repeat or selected to play, it will loop on the 5-9 seconds mark for a brief moment.

I've tried a clean reinstall, and have also tried cleaning my Roaming/Spotify/Users folder as well, and deleting the Roaming/Spotify/prefs does not fixes it either. I am unable to download the MS version.

From what it looks like, it doesn't seem like an issue in the users' device, but an issue with the newest version itself.

Agreed! Plus, this issue is being dragged too long.
