My Question or Issue

When I click the "Link Account" button on the Spotify widget in the game bar here:

Cupquakers_0-1625806483998.png

The tab just blinks/flashes once and stays on this page. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify, and then a clean uninstall when I saw it recommended on a different "Game Bar not working" post. I've restarted my computer multiple times, checked my location, Time & Date. I've set Spotify as the default music player, opened several MP3 files just to make sure it connected right (they didn't play, but they opened Spotify), I transferred ownership over TrustedInstaller to all users (it's a private device). I've tried every possible thing I've seen in these forums and through google searches--but nothing seems to work. It's been stuck this way ever since I first tried over half a year ago.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Hey @VojtaNesvadba, welcome to the Community.

Hope you're doing great!

Could you open Settings app and inside Apps category do the following:

  1. Search for Xbox Game Bar
  2. Click on App Settings
  3. Click on Repair

Then after performing the above steps try these next:

  1. Uninstall Spotify from Microsoft Store
  2. Download it from the Spotify website
  3. Launch Spotify and login to account
  4. Go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps select Sportify
  5. Go back to Game bar and login with Spotify

Keep me posted 🙂

I already done this before opening this thread. I wasn't joking when I said I spent a lot of time searching for solution.

Hey @VojtaNesvadba,

Could you check under your account in Apps section if there's an entry for Xbox or Microsoft?

If you haven't already tried, try reinstalling Windows 10 over your current one. So you don't delete anything at all.

I found this other thread for the same issue. Try the steps provided by that user and see if that helps.

Let me know how it goes 🙂

Are you sure this will help me? I don't think reinstalling whole syste is worth to me for just a non-working widget. Maybe Spotify could make some application feature working almost same as the Game Bar widget and would be much more better than this...

Hey @VojtaNesvadba,

Try the steps from the thread I linked if you haven't already.

The method I'm suggesting on reinstalling Windows 10 doesn't change anything from your files or apps. It will only reinstall Windows 10, like an upgrade but not quite.

Use the Windows Creation Media tool to perform that, if you decide to do it.

I saw that thread already, so yes, I did those steps. Unfortunately no help. Maybe I will really try to reinstall Windows then...

Hey @VojtaNesvadba,

Thanks for posting here.

Could you please share with us a video recording of what's happening when you try linking your account?

You can also share with us which troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. That way we'll able to avoid repeating steps.

Keep us in the loop.

I don't think I am able to do this actually, any of video recorders are too demanding to my system. Only recorder that worked for me was the Game Bar one and that one does not record the Game Bar window, so...

I tried to reinstall from Spotify website instead of Microsoft Store (before was using the Microsoft Store version)
I set Spotify as a default app
I did repair and reset of the XBoX Game Bar
(not necessary in this order, I performed this steps for multiple times)

Hi @VojtaNesvadba,

Thank you for keeping in touch and sharing that info.

From your computer's settings, could you make sure your Windows region is the same as the region registered on your Spotify account

It's also worth disabling your firewall to try and link your Spotify account again.

Let us know how this goes.

Hey @VojtaNesvadba

Thanks for getting back to us.

After this troubleshooting, we feel this is most likely isolated to your device or specific setup and we're unable to find a solution remotely. In this case, we suggest that you try it on a different PC or reach out directly to Microsoft Support for further help.

Since you have now installed the Spotify app on your Windows 10 computer, you can use it to link your Spotify account to your Xbox Game Bar.

  • Click the Xbox Game Bar icon on your desktop. The bar can be opened without opening the game.
  • Next, click the Spotify icon in the upper right corner of your screen. The Spotify icon might not appear in the tab if you click the Home button or the icon with three diagonal lines.
  • Click the Spotify tab in the Overlay section. You will be redirected to the Spotify page.
  • Once you have done that, you will be taken to the Spotify page. To link your account, click the link.
  • Either you can sign in with Facebook or you can enter the username and password you chose.
  • Once you are logged in, you will be presented with the permissions window. You need to click the Accept button.Further information please see the pictureHow-to-Enable-and-Link-Spotify-to-Xbox-Game-Bar.jpg

Hey

Please could you check under the Account section and see if there is an entry for Xbox, Xbox 360, or Microsoft under the Apps section?

The best thing you can do is to reinstall Windows 10 over the current one if you haven't already done so. By doing so, you will not delete anything.

Let me know how it works out

I am having this problem on my Windows 11 Desktop. I log in my Spotify account to link to Windows Game Bar, and it hangs as a white window with "Connecting to a service" at the top of it. Please help!

when i do this then go to enter my email and password it pulls up this tab that says "connecting to a service" and no matter how long i wait it never does anything

I don't think you understand the situation that we are on

I have the same issue, and through some troubleshooting, I beleive it has to do with the URL:Spotify protocol defaulting to Spotify instead of opening a browser. Unfortunately, I cannot change the default app from Spotify to test. This may be possible through commands, though I do not know.

Hello, I've encountered the same issue. Here are my specs: Laptop: i9 11th gen, 2080 RTX, 32GB RAM, Windows 10 Home 22H2, 64-bit.

There are two states, one for each Spotify app:

  1. Spotify from Microsoft Store: The Spotify window in the game bar only displays one option, "Start listening," which opens Spotify as a standalone window.

  2. Spotify from the website: I'm presented with two options: link my account or get the app. The second option redirects me to a download page, which doesn't provide any assistance. The first option opens a pop-up window in the game bar titled "Connecting to service," but it remains blank indefinitely.

Here's what I've tried:

  • Resetting and repairing the game bar.
  • Reinstalling both versions of Spotify.
  • Setting Spotify as the default player for MP3 files.
  • Clicking "Link account" in various states of Spotify on my machine (logged in or not).

My suggestion: I recommend reaching out to the developers to request a Windows widget for Spotify that doesn't require the use of the game bar.
