I run Windows 7 Home Premium and Spotify works well for me.

I'd suggest reinstalling Spotify by following this article as guide.

I also suggest turning off local files in Spotify's preferences, especially when you don't use the feature anyway.
Go to Spotify's menu dots - Edit - Preferences, scroll down and disable (turn gray) all local file sources.

My Windows Desktop versions very sluggish too, reinstalled one because I just got the dreaded blackpage! Slightly better but syncing is really slow? Any issues with internet flow we should know about?

I think it could be your computer? Maby you just need more RAM. I'm not an expert though

Spotify is too Ram hungry I agree, I had no issues with older versions, they need to sort it out!
