My Question or Issue

I had not updated my Spotify version since the UI redesign (1.2.8) until yesterday.

After installing the newest version, I noticed that through my Razer USB sound card drivers the volume slider did not adjust the loudness of the audio. Spotify Connect indicates this as a "Wired connection." I plugged my headset through the audio jack and the volume control is able to adjust loudness again. This time Spotify Connect just identifies play back through "This computer." I wish to be able to game and listen to music with my driver preferences again without having to take extra steps to change playback volume through the volume mixer.

Hey there, @jliu823,

Thanks for reaching out!

Sounds like the issue is coming from the audio output device. Something you can try is toggle off audio enhancements, communication settings, Exclusive Mode as well as Spatial sound to see if that does the trick:

  1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel, switch to the Communications tab and set "When Windows detects communications activity" to Do nothing.
  2. Head back to the Playback tab, then right-click your audio output device and select Properties. In the new window that pops up, switch to the Advanced tab and untick "Exclusive Mode", "Enable audio enhancements" and "Spatial sound".

If you're using any other sound enhancing apps, I'd recommend disabling them temporarily as well.

Let us know how it goes 👍

Hi Yordan,

Thanks for the reply. I found a similar thread stating the same fix but I was still unable to change the volume in-app. I don't understand how a 2 year old version was able to support my preferred drivers no problem.

Unfortunately the USB Sound card driver that comes with Synapse 4 is broken on Spotify, the audio controls dont work. The USB Sound card from Synapse 3 works mostly ok.

That’s unfortunate. I’ve resulted to using the web app for now.
