My Question or Issue

I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 and immediately went to install Spotify as one does. Whenever I go to change my volume while Spotify is running now, an overlay pops up next to the volume bar with the album art, song name, and artist of the song that's playing. I know on my previous computer that there was an option to "show desktop overlay when using media keys" but I no longer see the option under my Display settings. Has anyone else had this issue? It's driving me insane.

Hey @moomoofire,

Thanks for getting in touch with us 🙂

We'd suggest you restart the device and then to log out and log back in again. Are there any changes?

If the issue persists, can you tell us the Spotify version that is running on your PC? You can also send us a screenshot of what you're seeing. We'll investigate this further.

Keep us in the loop! We'll be right here if you have any questions.

The issue is still persisting unfortunately. My current version of Spotify is 1.1.47.684.g136419d9-a, I've also gone ahead and screenshotted the settings (or lack thereof) I have as well. Thank you for your help!

Hey @moomoofire,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Unfortunately it seem that the screenshot didn't get attached. Would you mind uploading it once more? The option @Ver mentioned should be found in the settings in the Display options section. If it's not visible, we recommend first running a clean reinstall, as this removes corrupted files that might be rendering the app to malfunction. If that doesn't fix things, could you share the Spotify version you see at your end?

Keep us posted. We’ll keep an eye out for your reply.

I am having the same issue! I am a new user (premium), just registered about 2 hours ago for the first time. I did not have any Spotify software on my computer before so don't tell me to relog/reboot/reinstall or whatever because I already did tens of times. For the last 2 hours instead of listening to music and organizing my playlists I've been fighting with lots of Spotify quirks and issues that seem to be resolved 4 - 5 years ago. Nice first experience I would say? (sarcasm).

As the OP of this thread posted, the option "Show desktop overlay when using media keys" is missing from my Spotify setup (Spotify being cleanly installed today from Microsoft Store for the FIRST time). Without that option every time I change the windows volume using the media hotkeys, I get a HUGE overlay popup. I can clearly see the OP's screenshot (don't know why you guys don't see it so I will attach my own) which shows that the option is simply MISSING!.spot-w1024-h512.jpg

I'm currently on Spotify version 1.1.48.625.g1c87c7f7-a.

This is currently a completely fresh reinstall.

Is there any chance in getting an update on this issue?

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Community 🙂

We are constantly running tests in order to improve the app and the experience with it. It's possible that you might see some features that other don't or get certain ones only temporarily.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. You can also head here to find more information about the New Desktop Experience and to and share your feedback in the thread as well.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'll be happy to help.

This isn't a matter of getting a new feature that others don't have, but losing a years old feature that everyone else does have. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the "New Desktop Experience" when I've had the option to disable the overlay for the past six years I've subscribed to Spotify.

Is there any sort of Technical Support route I can go through to work on resolving this?

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

So in other words we aren't gonna be getting a human response to this issue?

The link provided is about "idea exchanges", not features that I've enjoyed for six years as a Spotify Premium subscriber suddenly showing up missing while everyone else still has them.

Hey @moomoofire

Thanks for your reply.

We're sorry to hear that you feel like this. Keep in mind that the right teams are gathering feedback about the New Desktop Experience here, and this is being constantly monitored.

We really value your feedback and we recommend adding it to the thread so that it can reach the right folks.

If anything else comes up, we'll be right here.

Have a good one.

Same issue for me. I had previously managed to get rid of the annoying overlay when using Chrome via their settings. (I know this doesn't affect whether other programs bring up the overlay). Just saying, other programs make it pretty simple to turn the overlay off.

Installed Spotify 2 days ago. Now Spotify brings up the annoying overlay. I go to Spotify settings to try and turn off the overlay. That option is not there. I've tried uninstalling, restarting, downloading and installing the latest version, restarting. The option is still not there.

Please reintroduce this feature to ALL Spotify versions. The overlay is highly frustrating and I'm genuinely surprised that I now have no way to turn the Spotify overlay off. Or do I?

Many thanks

Hi there @culjules,

Thanks for reaching out about this.

You're right - that option isn't there in the new update.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback about this. We encourage you to do so in this thread, which is constantly being monitored by the right folks, as your thoughts are very important for us so we can keep improving the app.

We hope this helps. If you need anything else, we're always a post away.

Cheers!
