I have Windows 11, and downloaded the Spotify app from both the Microsoft Store as well as Spotify site. Whenever I install it and try to log in, it sends me to my browser (Opera GX) and I click the "continue to app" button but then the app gives me error "client_token:101". I have had this problem with other browsers.
I've tried:
- Switching browsers
- Re-Installing app
- Installing app from multiple locations
- Deleting every Spotify folder on my computer
- Using a VPN
- Allowing it through Windows Security Firewall
- Disabling Windows Security Firewall
- Changing the app's proxy settings to "no proxy"
Hi there @Hungry15230,
Welcome to the Spotify Community!
That's quite the extensive troubleshooting you've tried, great job! Something else that's worth trying is editing your hosts file and removing any lines with Spotify in the address. You'll find a guide on how to do that here.
Another thing that comes to mind is flushing your DNS - this article covers the necessary steps for Windows 11. If possible, try with another Wi-Fi network (you can create a mobile hotspot from your phone and connect your PC to it).
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes!
Cheers 🤘
Still nothing. 😕
Thanks for trying @Hungry15230.
In that case I'd recommend restarting your PC in Safe Mode with Networking and, if necessary, repeating all troubleshooting steps you've tried so far to see if you'd be able to log in then. If you can, the issue might be coming from another app on your PC that is preventing Spotify from working normally.
If you're still unable to log in, you can try resetting your network/router settings.
Keep me posted!
I’m sorry I took awhile, I’ve been busy, but what I did find was that when using a mobile hotspot it works fine. Do you know what would be causing only the hotspot to work? All other sites do not need a hotspot to load, only Spotify web browser and app.
I'm afraid I can't say exactly what's causing this @Hungry15230 😞
Something appears to be restricting Spotify's access to your Wi-Fi network, perhaps another app or an option in your network settings. This thread has some troubleshooting suggestions which may prove useful in your situation, so feel free to check it out and give them a shot, if you haven't already.
Hope you get this sorted out. The Community is always here if something else comes up.
Take care 💚

My Question or Issue
Every now and then, Spotify logs me out, and it's fine—I just log back in. But this time, I got a weird error about my firewall not allowing Spotify, along with this error message in the browser tab:
I went to Windows Defender Firewall, and Spotify was there, allowed in both public and private networks. I uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify, but the issue persisted. I changed my proxy settings to "no proxy," but still, no luck. Now, I just don't know what to try besides changing the country.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
