Windows Spotify app says "spotify cannot play this song right now" to all songs

Solved!

Windows Spotify app says "spotify cannot play this song right now" to all songs

I have restarted my computer, cleared my cache and clean reinstalled spotify a few times now but I keep getting that error message when I try to play any song. However it works fine on my Apple phone and Chrome browser. Its specifically the app that wont let me play anything.

Hey @Purpleapples,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

In this case, we'd recommend trying and installing Spotify from the Microsoft store to see if you notice any difference. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

On another note, if that doesn't do the trick, would you mind sharing with us the exact Spotify version you have running on your computer?

Lastly, did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.

Keep us in the loop!

I'm getting a similar error, except it won't display an error message and it's not on all songs (but easily over 90% of the music on any given playlist). There's also many glitches surrounding Queue. Adding songs that won't play will glitch out the Queue. It's also possible to deduct the songs that won't play because they're excluded from the Queue when a song plays successfully.

It only happened after the most recent update, and it's only an issue on the desktop app, works fine on my iOS app.

Unrelated, but this forum also glitches out on my PC, trying to make a post gets stuck on an auto-refresh cycle on the make-a-post page. On Firefox at least.

Hey @Purpleapples,

Thanks for reaching out.

Have tried reinstalling the app as described in this guide under Clean reinstall? If that doesn't help, please check your hosts file for any lines containing Spotify.

Keep us posted!

Hi,

Thank you for responding, unfortunately neither of these options provided any solution to my problem. I still receive the "Spotify cant play this right now" for every song I try to play in the app, yet still on mobile and browser work just fine.

Hey @Purpleapples

Thanks for your reply.

Would you mind giving a different internet connection a go to see if that makes the difference?

On another note, could you let us know if you've downloaded the app the from our website or from the Microsoft Store

We'll be on the lookout.

Hello,

I only have access to my single internet connection. However if a iPhone hotspot counts it didn't change anything either. Also I download Spotify off of the website and not Microsoft store as Id assume it'd be more reliable. Unless I'm wrong and should try downloading it from the Microsoft store as another option.

Thank you for your assistance

Hello!

Downloading from the Microsoft store has worked and now my app works! Even though my problem has been solved, every time I reinstalled it said my Spotify was up to date and the only thing OS update wise was I unclipped and reinstalled my RAM which caused a normal update. Thank you for helping!
