My Question or Issue:
When I use Spotify on desktop, I like to keep my view split between the album/playlist on the right, and my library on the left. Now currently, the library view takes up a three-wide grid showing less of my library and making the playlist/album section too large. Wondering if this is a bug or a change that's here to stay.
Hey folks,
Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.
We can confirm that the behavior was changed recently. You can still expand Your Library by clicking on the arrows next to the "Create" button at the top right:
We’re always testing possible improvements and new features, so you might see something on the app that other users don't, or get a brand-new feature for only a temporary period.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us and will make sure to pass it onto the right team, as we always strive to improve your experience.
Hope this clears things up. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.
Checking in on this post again.... is this fixed yet? anyone know a way to fix it? drives me nuts daily
It's unbelievable how stubbornly Spotify clings to a developer's idea that is completely pointless!😡😡😡
It's a pure waste of screen space! HELLO SPOTIFY, please reverse this decision!
Why have they done this?? It's a massive DOWNGRADE with no positives. How can the developers have thought that replacing a perfect method for customising the split (which keeps everyone happy) with a forced split size was a good idea or an improvement in any way?? IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!
Instead of removing decent aspects of the UX, why don't the developers crack on with all of the many suggested common-sense improvements? It's infuriating, especially when paying fop Premium!
Please please ask them to fix it by reverting it back to how it was.
Eni, as others have said, this is not a solution!
I also choose what to play mainly through the library view and I was having at least 5 items per row.
Consider this thread an official feature request to bring back this flexibility and allow users to always have a large library view of up to 50% of the app size.
This limitation has been ruining my experience, ON A DAILY BASIS, since I find it much harder to look through my library now. The space is wasted and I have to scroll a lot to find what I want to play.
Best regards
Yeah, this is not gonna work for me. I had it the way I wanted it for quite a while, accidentally moved the adjustment border, and now the library is unnecessarily restricted with this brand-new imposition that seems really deficient and unworkable. I don't really understand the point, but there's not much I can say that everybody else already hasn't.
Got the update few days ago and I hate it with passion. Resizing function itself seems to still be in place but it hardly does anything anymore since it is limited to so narrow view. So why bother even keeping that at all if you want to force users to certain UI look?
I agree that the full size button is a new feature, but limiting options that already were there are not improvements. Using the button is also very badly implemented. From user experience standpoint it adds more clicks to do same thing as before and it opens up very slow. And the worst thing is that it also adds a lot of CPU load when it is open, it is noticeably laggier than any other UI element. I really can't see it as a better or improved way to access library.
Today I got an info, that Spotify do not want to change it in the short term Unbelievable!😠
Why not let us change the size of the library windows? Removing features for no reason and no benefit.
I wanna congratulate spotify for making me leave after almost 10 years of being a customer**bleep** is beyond garbage and made me quit for good. Its a pointless change that makes the app so much worse to navigate because you are forced to waste 70% of screenspace when navigating playlists I WANNA QUICKLY SCAN THROUGH EVERYTHING BUT SINCE THIS CHANGE YOU JUST CANT YOU HAVE TO SLOWLY CRAWL THROUGH EVERYTHING OR USE SMALL TINY CORNERS OF THE SCREEN
This is horrible. I also mainly use Spotify via my library and resent being pushed into using it differently. Please allow us to drag the library as far right or left as we want with the resizing bar
Yep this sucks. I mostly use Spotify from my library and now I can barely see it. Please let me arrange the library to take up as much or as little space as I want, rather than setting a hard cap
Can someone explain why I now find myself constrained to such a narrow library panel? I mainly use Spotify from my library, and now I find that I'm limited to a 3-column library, with the 'explore' panel or whatever it's called taking up almost my whole screen. Why this change? Why not let library-focused users expand their library to take up as much or as little of the screen as they want? Please remove the cap on how far right I can slide the spacer!
Where did you see this? They're honestly such **bleep**ers, what could be the reason for not allowing us to make it as many columns as we want
Have you actually quit? Curious about what you've moved on to as a replacement if so.
very cool that this will never be changed even though literally no one likes it, it makes the experience worse, and it wastes a hundred miles of screen real estate. i cannot fathom what goes on in your company's minds. you people are hostile aliens.
Another vote to revert this change. I'm fine if the default is smaller, but let me have control. Limiting to only 3 across is a real pain.
Is Spotify or any of the Moderators actually going to respond to this? Has Spotify now made it an official change and is it here to stay permanently? I genuinely have not used Spotify since this change was made, since my main way of using the player was through My Library and having a nice large overview of Albums and Playlists.
To the Moderators, you wrote "We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us and will make sure to pass it onto the right team, as we always strive to improve your experience.".
Since this change is still present, can you actually confirm that you actually received mostly positive feedback on this UI change? Or has any feedback been ignored?
Can any of the Moderators articulate what the benefits are from this change, from Spotify's point of view? From a users point of view, I have not managed to come up with a single one yet.
