the 'add a location for spotify to look for your music' feature does NOT permit me to add a location where my music is stored. spotify ONLY looks in 'default' locations which i do not use to store my files. i keep trying but 'add location' does nothing after you select a folder.
and yes my music is ALL in file formats spotify wants to use.
and NO i do NOT use fascebook or twitter. not everyone uses social media- this paying customer would appreciate actual tech support service from spotify.
to those who find it hard to believe, social media is NOT something EVERYONE accepts, and for good reason. Spotify MUST NOT refuse service to its p[aying customers merely because some have zero desire to publicize their life and lose their privacy.
PLEASE, spotify, just provide support. I pay fopr your service, how about helping out?
Hi @kepler_tunes_19,
Sorry that the app isn't working as intended. Firstly, I can assure you that this bug is not a result of you not being connected to social media, so don't worry 🙂
Check this support page on info about local files: https://support.spotify.com/us/using_spotify/features/listen-to-local-files/
One thing to keep in mind is to make sure you click on the source, and then click OK when the source you want to add is highlighted. If the OK button is not clickable, make sure your source is a folder and not a location such as 'This PC' or 'Libraries'.
Make sure to reply if you're still having problems, I'm happy to try and resolve this problem to the best of my abilities.
it is --not -- working.
and yes i realize that me not being on social media is not the cause of the problem.
i mention that because not being on social media means i do not get support from spotify and am left with community comment boards. not really a gopod way to spend my money but how else do i get to listen to music since groove was killed off?
i select where my music is stored and it does not appear as a source. so all my purchased music that does not appear on spotify never plays ever, despite me owning it and it being on my local drives.
i am sure i am alone on this assessment but at least groove let me play the music i bought.
just want spotify to SEE my drive whewre the music lives. tons of albums there that do not exist on spotify that i cannot listen to. it's insane.
and i have been paying >10$ a month for this for a year?
Can you please take me through what you're doing to add the local file source?
It should be in Edit > Preferences and under the 'Local Files' tab, click 'Add a Source'. Click on a folder and press the OK button, it should appear under there.
yes, that button.
it does nothing.
it opens a popup window asking me to navigate to select the location of my music-- on a local drive-
but then, after it has been selected, nothing.
it still only looks in the default locations where i have no music stored. repeated attempts result in the same issue. it does nothing.
So just to be clear, when you click 'Add Source', navigate to your source and press 'OK', nothing happens and the 'Show songs from' list doesn't update. May I ask, what source are you trying to add and where on your computer is it located?
Sorry for taking so long, I just want to make sure that I completely understand what's happening

exact.
list does not update after selecting the source location.
it is on a local drive, just mp3 files, which spotify can use.
Can you add other sources that aren't that folder? If so, try moving the folder to a different location then try again.
You can also try doing this but
1. If you have any other local files on Spotify, make sure you have them all in a folder in case you need to re-add them after
2. Your preferences will reset so make sure that you know which you need to disable/re-enable before doing this
1. Close Spotify (make sure it's not running in the background on your toolbar)
2. Go to %appdata% in your file browser. You'll end up in Appdata/Roaming
3. Find Spotify, go into it. Open the Users folder and open the -user inside that folder.
4. The -user is a folder with your account information, including local files.
Remove the files called 'prefs' and 'local-files.bnk'
5. Re-open your Spotify and try to add the source again.
If both of these don't work, a temporary solution would be to empty the files you want to listen to into one of the default sources. Hope this helps 🙂
