[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

YES! Gosh "under consideration" ain't good enough. 🙂 Get this enhanancement on the near-term roadmap. You've got the big issue solved, i.e., you tag "Explicit" songs already. So just code up an explicit  filter. I like playing "Mood" lists but sometime an f-bombed tune will come up, leaving my 10 and 11 years olds with big "uh-oh" looks on their faces.

I can't believe this isn't a feature. Boooo come on Spotify. This could be a game changer.

I wonder if Spotify employees are fired when they have children. I've been waiting for this for so long. How hard can it really be? It really has an impact on how we use Spotify as a family, and I'm thinking of unsubscribing. On the iOS versions of the app you can't even see whether a song contains explicit lyrics before you play it.

Pandora has this option. Why doesn't Spotify?

Spotify - it's time to be truthful.  This idea has been "under consideration" for almost 3 years now.  You're either going to do it or not.  It sure looks like you're not, and if that's the case, I think it's time for everyone who has been patiently waiting for this extremely reasonable request to ditch Spotify for any / all of your competitors that allow for simple filtering of songs with explicit lyrics.

Please don't keep saying that this is under consideration.  Either implement this feature request or don't.  But make a decision and be honest with your fans / users.

My kids use my spotify account all the time. Right now I feel like I have to tell them to switch to Pandora because I never know if they will play a song with explicit lyrics.  Pandora has the option. But I prefer to use Spotify ....

I just want to agree with this whole thread.  It doesn't matter if it's due to small kids, or just a dislike for the bombardment of 4 letter words you get with some songs. For me it's both.  I love listening to New Music on Tuesdays, but I don't appreciate all the explicit lyrics.

It does make it hard to play music for the family or allow them to explore what's out there in a safe and responsible manner. It's soon going to become a deciding factor on my subscription.  It's been a long time request, it has a bunch of support, and at this point it's not a feature request, it's a bug fix.

Just signed up for the family plan so my daughter and wife could have their own account. Sure would be nice if this was getting worked on so I can fileter my daughters account.

Been a Premium user for over two years, have liked the service so far, but this is a deal breaker for me. I am a techie to the core, I have most of the neat devices before anoyone else, I was the biggest supporter of spotify in the past.

But, the lack of movement on fixing this "bug" has made me realize that spotify does not care about their consumers and their concerns. This is one of their top ten issues in the idea pages. Now it has been three years and if you dont know yet, three years is a HUGE amount of time in software development, major revisions have been released during this time. Spotify needs to get this fixed.

Spotify lost Taylor Swift and now they are failing at implementing a critical feature that ALL, Ill say that again, ALL other streaming services posses.

So, as an advisor for the technological choices of a lot of people, I will be actively looking for another service and will be cancelling my subscription to a non consumer caring service.

I just found this blog post and this really upsets me. Spotify, do what the people want and what makes sense! Don't hold out for 3 years.
