[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Why is this still under consideration?!?!?!?!? such a great idea, I don't want to be listening to a playlist and a song with an F-bomb in it comeson!!!!! Come on spotify!!!!!

Is there a way to give this 100,000,000 kudos? I NEEEEEED THIS

I listen to Spotify at work and would love to listen to a Hip Hop playlist without the explicit songs playing!!!

Family plans are out.  THANK YOU! I have 4 kids with iPhones, that I would love to add to my Spotify plan.

TAKE MY MONEY, PLEASE!  I would upgrade my plan today if I could 'disable' explicit tracks from playing on their devices.

Even Apple allows for Parental controls over iTunes music.  And Apple doesn't typically let people control ANYTHING.  It's 'their way' or the highway typically.

You can do it SPOTIFY!

Spotify, you don't consider this a priority even after all the comments and kudos. It is a shame that moral preference and decency is disregarded in place of features that have no impact on society. I'm dissappointed in your lack of courage and respect for those unwilling to play explicit material. How fortunate we are you aren't running a more influential organization.

Pandora here I come. If Spotify can't enable something so simple, especially for those that have families, then I think it sums up their whole attitude.

Spotify, I use you every day at work. With the new family share plans I just moved the rest of the family from Pandora to Spotify radio stations. We like lots if dance music a I was really disappointed to hear how explicit the songs are without an option to filter them out. Spotify is losing our money until a kids block explicit lyrics filter is added

I just confirmed it's true: Pandora now has a filter option. While it applies to all devices in the account when activated, that's a great first step.

Personally I want to be able to filter by word or subcategory like "racial slurs" (via lyric or tag). At least Pandora has something that will prevent embarrassing or undeisrable songs.

Spotify needs to have at least the basic functionality as Pandora has put in. Filter state by device or time of day would be great additional steps... by lyric or tag, great. All combined would be ideal.

As much as I wish Spotify would make this minimal effort to add a very helpful feature, I don't understand why so many people here act like Pandora is an alternative. I want to listen to what I want to listen to, when I want to listen to it. If that means I listen to the same song all day, which I've been known to do, then I listen to the same song all day. Pandora doesn't hold a candle to Spotify in terms of my ability to control it and fine tune it. So they skip explicit songs among the songs they choose for you, so what? I'll choose my own songs, thank you, and manually avoid explicit content when my kid is around. Pandora holds zero appeal for me! It would simply be nice if Spofity would add a button to temporatily turn explicit content off. That's all I'm asking for, and all I suspect most listeners want.

True, not an absolute replacement. However every single Spotify list I
choose yesterday for workouts had n*gger or b*tch in it.

If I can only use Spotify for manual lists, the should offer that as a less
expensive option (or charge a premium for filters).
