[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Does anyone know of any other music streaming services that offer this functionality? I'm happy to pay.

Google Play has many of the same features as Spotify, costs $9.99 per month and has an explicit filter. Pandora and iTunes Radio also have explicit filters but unlike Spotify and google play, you can't search for any song and play it.

It would really be nice if you had a button like pandora that allowed you to turn off explicit lyrics I will have to stick with pandora until this is created

Why has this thread been open since 2012 and is still "Under Consideration"?  As often as spotify updates itself, how hard could it be to add a couple lines of code to filter out any of the tracks that have the "explicit" label beside them?   I am strongly considering canceling my premium substriction because of this.  I hope you are "considering" loosing customers Spotify.

I can't believe that this request has been on the "Idea Board" for over three years!  I have two young children and, despite my vigilance, there have been several instances where an inappropriate song has come on with them in the room.  Pandora has had this feature for a while.  Time to move back...

Yeah the idea that SPOTIFY actually looks at these posts is a joke.  Clearly they don't care about their customers... or more likely their contract with the music companies is set up so they get a price break for not including filtering.   Or they are just targeting a different demographic.  To be honest, even with filtering off on Pandora I don't get nearly as many songs with explicit language.  WIth Spotify a play list of 50 songs can have 20 songs with an explicit  tag on it.

It's absolutely common sense to have a filter button.  I have followed this for  a while and there are comments almost every day asking for this.   So, now it's back to Pandora ( or really any other service since the ALL have filtering. )  Glad I only got the free trial and didn't pay for this.

For the record, Spotify can do whatever they want.  It's their company.  I'm sure there is some reason why they feel it is more profitable  for them (it's always about the money after all) which is fine.  I just don't have to pay for it.

Spotify:  Come On Man!!!

Enough already, install an explicit filter!  I pay for three users, my patience is up, I will be canceling.

It's obvous that the listening and paying audience has NO SAY on if we want to listen to songs with Explictt words . Spotify is in Fear of music Artist "rght for Expression". The fact that you want to listen to Spotify at a public event or around your young kids makes NO DIFFERENCE TO SPOTIFY!..

I wonder if other streaming services allow us to filter out Garbage..

For Exampe Listening to "Have a Great Day" songlist by Spotify at work . and **bleep** YOU by Celo.. (<--- OH MY GOSH!!!! IT BLEEPED ME! I spelled F**K and it bleeped me!.. ) ( I didnt want to infringe on the artist rights by using F***K).  COME ON! Holly Cow I have to go Diving over my desk to kill Spotify.. Rediculous.! What about songs with Racial slurs? I have to subject my kids and others to These racist coments because Spotify is Fearful to add a switch? Pltiful Spotify!

I have cancelled my premuim Subsciption. I joined Spotify within the first week of them comming to the united states and purchased premuim after a month or two of being a free user.

I suggest that everyone who is tired of getting ignored on this issue let spofity know that you will be cancelling your subscription at their facebook page and on twitter @spotify and @SpotifyCares

They maynot change a thing, but at least we all can stop paying a company that doesnt care about their customers.

There's really only two possible explanations for something as seemlingly simple as this request:

1. Spotify does not have staff with the technical expertise to implement such a change, or

2. Spotify is siding with artists that have songs with explicit lyrics to ensure their materials are not filtered out, therefore ignoring the needs of their paying customers

I wonder which it coulde be?

I'm with others who have stated, the only way to make a lasting statement is with our wallets.
