[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I throw parties and events for tweena and teens and it would make my life so much easier if this were available. Please do this, Spotify, that way I don't accidentally play rude lyrics for 11 year olds.

Hundreds of posts about this request and still nothing from Spotify.  Makes you wonder if they really give a $4!+.

So...last update from Spotify regarding this request was over a year ago.

Yes, we understand YOU don't censor.  Awesome.  However, some of us would like the freedom, the option, to choose whether we would like to listen to tracks labeled "Explicit."  I listen at work.  Part of why I use services like Spotify are to discover new stuff and not always have to curate my own lists.  Lots of good lists with explicit tracks I'd rather not hear while at work.

Ideally, you could select how you want the lists to behave when the "disable explicit content" button is activated.  You could have the songs hiddn, or just greyed out. If you wanted to check out a greyed out explicit track, a dialogue (that you can disable) would pop up reminding you to hit the "disable explicit content" button so you can listen to that track.  You could have the option to set a password to change the state of the button.

I feel like this is a pretty basic and widely desired request.  Would be an awesome gesture on your part to your loyal customers.

Very well put!

It's just short of bizarre that they have stonewalled their customer base on this very basic, very easy to implement enhancement of the user interface.

I'm pretty sure that the 'bots that ARE Spotify just don't care.

I recently tweeted Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, the interaction (if you can call it that) all but confirms that the entire Spotify company, from the CEO down to @SpotifyCares doesn't care at all about the consumer wishes.

.@eldsjal can you please provide a response about bit.ly/spotifynsfw? It seems like an easy request that is being ignored. #spotifynsfw

@ssims45 we'll look at it

Therefore I urge each and every one of you to cancel your premium subscription, start using another service (Google Music, Pandora, iHeartRadio...anything except Spotify), and tell anyone who will listen to do the same.

Dear Spotify:  Adding the ability to filter out explicit content is not censorship.  Adding this functionality does not stop those artist's songs from being readily available on Spotify.  It does, however, allow me to use Spotify radio at work or with my 10-year-old son in the car.

I have a family membership, but WILL NOT add my son to the membership because of the lack of this function.  I will not play Spotify while at work.  Since I spend a lot of time either at work or in the car with my son, I seldom am able to use the service.  So, looks like I will be cancelling the service.

It makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever that Spotify has not implemented this functionality when every single one of the leading competitors have had this functionality for years (since inception in some cases).  Just purely ridiculous.  Sickening, really.......

I just read on their web site that Spotify made a deal with Starbuck. Can’t wait to see the first moms running out of Starbucks with their screaming kiddos after they realize that they are being bombarded with f-bombs and other explicits.
Maybe Starbucks can make them move as it seems like we can’t.
