[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I checked the Apple Music site and there's no mention yet of parental controls. The current iTunes Radio supports this. I also sent a tweet to Tim Cook, Apple Music, and Eddie Cue to see if it's going to be included. The family plan, for up to 6 people, is $14.99 a month.

I commented on this thread about 30 pages back that I was dropping my premium account because of this.. I ended up with the Google service that I am delighted with. I just checked the thread out of curiosity to see how it progressed but the response Booger got is completely lame. If this issue is a problem for you there is no point waiting for it to be fixed, because it won't be. Just leave and sign up elsewhere.

I just cancelled my premium (trial) account 2 months early. I agree the
response was unacceptable.

Here is what's driving this......$$$$$$.

It's not resources, nor priorities, nor technical challenges, nor anything else.  Its $$$$$.

Every play gets an artist paid.  Even if that play is accidental.  Artists that produce music with explicit lyrics will now get less hits if this filter were to ever be developed.  These lack of hits would result in less revenue for that artist.  Spotify will likely piss off these artists by doing this and its one more reason to pull their music from Spotify.

What's even more ridiculous.....Spotify has a "family plan" for more $ but its not even family friendly.

Anyways, Sounds like June 30th will be the start of my trial with Apple Music and hopefully the end of my relationship with Spotify.

One of the reasons I refuse to give spotify any money is because they don't let me have this option.  I have 4 kids who listen to music all the time and we play music all the time around the house...but not spotify.  I personally like some explicit lyrics when my kids aren't around, but I don't want to have them listen to explicit material with my approval.  I know they find this stuff if they want to, however, it's a whole different thing when I give them a spotify account and every song they've been listening to on the radio is in the explicit version.

We've been paying for a google all access option because I am able to filter those and will try out the apple music option at the end of the month.  I don't know what Spotify's reasons are for not giving this option, and now, I don't have to care anymore.

Exactly. If I want unfiltred content I will be able to get it on Apple Music for $10 less a month (+2 more users). If Google offered a family plan this would be a slam dunk given that they allow filtering. The only thing that will keep me on Spotify beyond the end of the month is a content filter. It doesn't appear that Spotify cares to address this issue. I've been peppering Daniel Ek on Twitter but it's just lip service at this point. It's really sad because it's a great service but I don't want my kids hearing the unfiltered garbage that shows up uncontrolled. Makes it hard to be loyal.

Good luck on Google offering a family plan. I've asked the Play Music
product team about this numerous times; each time, they reply: 'That's a
good idea! We'll consider it!'. That being said, I've moved from Spotify to
Google Play Music.

Seems like none of these providers meet all our needs. 😞

Just adding antoher comment that this feature NEEDS to happen!  I want my kids to be able to listen without the risk of hearing offensive language.

Usual response from @spotifycares again.

@SpotifyCares: @Malgrimes78 @eldsjal @shivar Hey! We don't have any info on this right now but we'll remind our devs it's something you'd like to see /Z

Do we know if Apple Music has this feature yet?

I do not listen to explicit lyric songs and am annoyed that when I listen to some stations I have to be on alert for them. I am not sure this is "under contruction" or does not have enough support and is actually being ignored now. It looks like this idea was started in 2012. It is now 3 years later. It does not take this long to add the option.
