[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

@Museic That's a good point, they could possibly offer that functionality at a higher premium.  However, I don't think they will do that.  Google Music and Pandora already offer the toggle switch for censorship for free.  It would be silly for them to offer this in a higher premium subscription.  Then again, I don't think spotify really worries too much about what people ask for.  They have a pretty good product and they believe that they will stay the best out there.  Rim used to act that way about their Blackberries too.

I've been going off the assumption that since ITunes Radio has the filter that it would carry over to Apple Music. Looking forward to the 30th so I can try it out.

Listen carefully, we want an option to allow concerned [parents, business
owners, office workers] to exclude or replace explicit content with either
nothing or the radio edit. Every radio station in the country/world has
this by virtue of an army of staff hand picking the songs that they play.
We don't have time or resources to do this, but computers do. It's a small
and easy change (someone, in this forum, has even written the code for
Spotify to do this.)

So, we are not asking for anything that is not already mainstream, in fact
we don't want censorship at all... Just personal censorship, just a tick
box when playing music with our [kids or co-workers], not too much to ask,
is it?

Apparently it is too much to ask. It has been 3 YEARS, 4 MONTHS and 8 DAYS since this idea was posted. Yes, 1,224 DAYS have passed and 95 pages of comments in favor of the idea have done exactly NOTHING to motivate Spotify to include a feature that literally every other music service has available. You can't tell me that this is some kind of contractual thing that's preventing it. Terrestrial Radio, Satellite Radio, Pandora, IHeart, XBOX Music, Google Music, Itunes etc. etc. etc. etc. all do it. Why would Spotify be required to be the lone source of forced unfiltered music? It's ridiculous that we're still having this conversation and in 4 days when I cancel my membership (4 users) it will take an act of god to get me back.

Just for fun, Spotify has been ignoring you for...

You gotta give it to 'em, they're persistent!

I applaud the option! I want the option as well but for the exact opposite reason. A lot of explicit material is unavailable because it's being censored. Give me the button!

Museic
The fact is I can't get explicit music in my subscription. Tried to listen to several Eminem albums and they aren't available except in censored format. I applaud the idea of the button. That's GREAT! But I can't get the explicit versions that I want to hear as well.

I cannot believe that this is only Under consideration! soooo bad spotify Lift your game!! another company will come along with the feature and take all your customers..

If Spotify can just find the edited version when you have explict lyrics unchecked so we can still play the songs, that would be great.  But like others have said sometimes there is a place like alone in your car to jam to explict lyrics and there are other times when the kids are the car and that is not an option.

This would be so nice! When I am at work I would love to listen but can't. Also when I have littler sisters around or grandma and grandpa I don't want them to hear the explicit songs. Please please do this!

pillboxhat

I can't believe this is not available. Cable, Movie ratings, Vchips, Netflix kids accounts....Like almost every other form of media has this ability.
I can't belive we even have to explain why ity would be necesary.
I can't belive that Spotify and ALL the other streaming services have NOT done something so simple as allowing my kid to listen to spotify without having to hear adult content. I am super liberal and anti-censorship etc...But surely one must realize that not all music and lyrics are appropriate for all situations.

Whoever comes out with this feature first get's my business. Fact.
