[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Google Play Music offers filtering of explicit music!

I'm really surprised this is just "under consideration" surely this is a must for families?

I play Spotify at school (top40) and I have to listen out for the tracks that I know have swearing in them. The option to skip these songs would be great!!

Have options available to either to completely block explicit songs by being hidden, make unplayable/not selectable in a list, or substitute clean versions.

Ok, so I've been following this thread/hoping for this function for a long time.  Ive initiated the free trial to apple music, and it appears I will indeed be cancelling spotify.  The new interface for apple will take some getting used to, and re-doing playlists.  In truth I probably still like spotify better for now in terms of usability.

But I CAN have explicit lyrics silenced on Apple Music!  It's not my ideal solution (where explicit songs would be completely skipped), but it's far better than what Spotify can provide (nothing).  For those who are trying, you have to turn on the explicit filter in iOS settings (restrictions).  It indeed works for apple music, just as it did for iTunes songs.  I can keep the filter off on my phone for my music (or turn it on when sharing), and have it set to filter on my kids' iPods.

Add in the $14.99 family price and those two things are easily enough for me to leave Spotify for apple music.

Signing up for Apple Music right now.  Will cancel my couple Premium Accounts of Spotify today.

It is sad that I have to cancel a spotify subscription that I have had since the beginning.  Buy hey F U C K it, explicit language should not be censored.

On August 16, my trial paid subscription will go to full pricing. I figure it will take me a week or so to move my playlists to a competing service, so consider this my notice, Spotify.

You have until August 10 to either implement this feature, or to provide a clear timeline by which it will be implemented as well as a convincing reason for the delay. Failing that, on August 10 you will lose another of your rare few paying customers, all because you refused to listen.

It's never going to happen.

This thread is three years old with nearly a thousand replies all asking for the same. For every person that posts here there are probably 50+ who think the same.

I signed up to Spotify the day it came out in the UK and stuck with them for years but this issue and the continuing pretence of 'consideration' has changed my opinion completely. I used to recommend Spotify but no more. If anybody asks I will point them towards Google All Access...those with an Apple device are likely to look elsewhere anywhere.

It not hard to do...all the information is there in the meta-data tags...so the refusal to implement is down to something else. Something more important than responding to the requests of the consumers. Almost certainly to do with money.

OK, I'm just back to say goodbye...Been using the new Apple Music all day and yes it will take some getting used to and yes it will still need some time for apple to finish polishing it.  However, it works pretty well already and it does have the Explicit language filter.  🙂  Then for the same price ($15.00) I have been paying for me and one other I can also allow my boys (9 and 11) to use it.  Anyways, going to turn off the email notifications for this forum now.  Good luck with however you each decide to handle this in your own world.

Just cancelled my subscription.  I left technical reason as the reason.  Unfortunately their exit poll does not allow free text on "Other" option.

Goodbye Spotify.  Let me know when you care.
