[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Updated on 2018-12-06

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I just tweeted: @SpotifyCares we need an explicit filter for spotify! We got 3,000+ kudos for this request on your forums. When will you implement this?

C'mon Spotify team - with 105 pages in this thread, over 1,041 comments & 3,023 Kudos here in August 2015, you would think in the three years this thread has been going that you would have taken a cue from your users & created a fairly straight-forward option - a button to disable the playing of any audio containing explicit language.  I'm really surprised noone has created a Spotify app for this purpose, however the ownus should be not on third parties, but on the distributors of the content to enable this option.  Pandora has it.  Google Music has it.  iTunes & Apple Music have it.  Why can't Spotify?!  Is Spotify inferior to all of these services that allow you to block this content that aren't even allowed to be played on public broadcast in the U.S.?!  Everyone, please remind Spotify that the ability to block this content is something we really want for our kids, for our families, for us.

Actually in the process of moving all my playlists over to Apple Music (what a terrible looking app) because of this missing feature.  The iPhone and Android already have settings for what types of Music, Movies, etc. are within restrictions on the phone.  Why can't spofity just utilize those settings to remove Explicit tagged music.  Apple Music does it so well (while it does other stuff terribly).  So bummed to move to away from Spotify (even with it being more expensive), the interface is just so much better.  But seeing how the family subscription took multiple years before it was implemented, doesn't look like Spotify actually trolls these forums for customer concerns.

Someone recommended tweeting @SpotifyCares to get a response. I actually
set up a twitter account just for this purpose and still didn't get an
answer as to why this isn't a feature. At this point I don't even care if
the answer is no, but a formal response from Spotify (beyond "make a
suggestion" on our unofficial forum) is long overdue.

Thanks engljeff - I just tweeted to @SpotifyCares  asking why this wasn't implemented yet with a link to the original post.

FYI, this was the @SpotifyCares reply: "Hey Bryan! We don't have any info on this right now, but we'll remind our developers it's a popular request /A".

Anyone for inundating @SpotifyCares with requests?

2 Steps EVERYONE HERE needs to do.

#1: First comment here on this forum and be sure to click the kudos to the main post on the top of the page.

#2: Then tweet @SpotifyCares

The following: (in your own words)

Please Add Explicit Filter NOW! We already have OVER 3,000 Kudos Asking For It.

Everyone here needs to publicly keep tweeting them until they finally do this. Once they decide to start development on this request, It should really only take them around 1-3 weeks at the most to implement this feature.

I just uninstalled Spotify because I cannot stop explicit songs from playing.  I'll stick with Pandora.  They have an Explicit Content Filter.

C'mon Spotify....this is a no-brainer....and likely the SOLE reason I'll switch to Apple Music!
