[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

That's just hilarious! "We can have filthy swearing on our forum but there's nothing wrong with it in music". Embarrassing is the word!

I am an aerobics instructor and Jr. High teacher. I love to use Spotify for both places, but find it difficult to create playlists for my aerobics classes and classroom activities that do not contain explicit songs. If there was just a was to filter the search.

Good luck with getting this feature everyone, I've just cancelled my subscription having found another service that allows explicit songs to be blocked from their mixes which works well when I'm listening with the kids.

Please give us the option to turn ON or OFF an explicit filter.

I’m not a prude, I not saving small kiddos from the gangster life but I would like the freedom of playing music in my office without the chance of someone seeding a song into a playlist that contains the surprise of profanity. I’m not sure how you do it but the explicit songs tend to only play when coworkers or clients walk in my office? Please give the power to the people and let us choose what we want to hear.

Dear Spotify,

I've been waiting for this feature for years.

Please just allow us to filter explicit content.

Netflix does it. Hulu does it.  Pandora does it.  Everyone is allowing explicit content to be filtered except you guys.

I appreciate that maybe you want artists to have the ability to share all their songs, but if your listeners don't want to hear explicit content anyways, trying to force that kind of music on them will only alienate them and push them towards services that give them the control so many of us are obviously looking for.

Let me be clear, though: I love you guys.  I thnk you're offering a great service/product and I do not want to stop using Spotify because of this issue.  However, I have seen myself forced to use other services when I can't take chances with explicit content.

Please....At some point, this needs to move beyond "being considered internally" to "being implemented and part of the next update."

I look forward to that day.

Seriously...Pandora already has this option...why not Spotify?

I agree with the need to sort this out now; it's well past overdue.

Please fix this issue Spotify.

I have never seen such an important feature take so long to develop when professional online service providers deliver new features on a weekly basis.

This is fast becoming a deal breaker for me since we always stream content through the house and in the car.

Can the Spotify forum admin please seek a date from the feature development team? Waiting three years is like a government project.

Apple Music support this feature now - Spotify is lagging behind.

I don't care about Spotify choosing my music when I'm running or linking to my BMW... I just want to stop accidentally forcing my kids to hear tracks which drop the F bomb and C bomb. It's really important to all parents out there!

I'm running the Apple Music trial now but will move from Spotify if this is not in place when my 3 months free is up. Oh and I like Taylor Swift 🙂

Come on Spotify - I've been paying premium for a few years now and this idea has been 'under consideration' all that time.

As of today, I had to switch to listening to Pandora at work because my manager walked in during a Drake song playing on your top 50 Playlist. Not having the option to filter explicit content makes absolutely no sense and you should be embarrassed. I pay money to you so I can't listen to you at work? I plan on cancelling my subscription if it isn't added soon and I encourage others to do the same!
