[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I just signed up for your service but think I will have to move to another service after finding out you dont have a BASIC feature to just filter explicit content.

You are really controlling how I WANT to listen to music. So why you think you are avoiding cencorship, in reality you are cencoring your users ability to control the service we pay for.

This would be a very helpful feature.

I would love for this to happen. Sometimes, I would like to use spotify but resort to using something else because of it playing explicit songs. Please add a filter button. Thanks guys.

Very surprised this isn't a feature already. I don't want explicit lyric versions if another version exists. Simple button to disable explicit songs from playing in playlists or Radio, and if you do a search the clean versions would come up. It's very tedious to find the clean versions of songs in Spotify. I consider this deal-breaking.

Here's the part that is so frustrating: almost all of the public playlists, which are one of Spotify's most compelling features, contain explicit playlists.

There's not even a good way of quickly copying an existing playlist and then removing the few songs with explicit lyrics.  You either use the public playists as is (with explicit songs intermixed) or you're left to assemble your own playlist a song at a time.

I completely agree. A way to disable playing explicit songs is needed. I've had to stop using spotify around the house because I don't want our kids hearing the explicit versions of songs that come up on all of the public playlists. There's no way I'll pay for a subscription as I wouldn't be able to use it much of the time.

I think it would also be cool if you are able to hear the censored versions... Just the other day I was in the car with my friends and the songs that came on my radio stations I didn't not approve of at all. It would VERY useful if you are able to still hear the songs but the radio version in your radio stations, playlists, music, etc. All controled by the censored off and on button. Thank you!

I know you silicon valley types think that adding an explicit filter would make you less cool, hip, and young, but in flyover country where our wallets are is where we don't want to hear f-bombs dropped while driving in a car with our 5 year olds.

This thread is many years old and obviously draws a lot of interest. You can, but don't implement this feature. It is obvious why.

swjmurphy

Considering leaving Spotify as constant explicit lyrics, please implement a filter!

For those of us who are on Android and have been waiting for something like Apple Music's Family Plan - well, it looks like Google Play will be announcing it today potentially! So, I don't have to wait until Apple Music comes to Android to bail from Spotify. If you are like me, this might be interesting news.
