[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I'm about to go back to Pandora for my work day music.  I cannot have random explicit material blaring through my office, and this feature is long past due.

Wholeheartedly agree. My son (6) loves maroon 5 and the versions he gets on Spotify are not appropriate. I'll limit him to Pandora until this is fixed. Thanks.

Please add this feature, it's quite embarrassing when you have children around and all of a sudden a seemingly nice playlist drops the F* word

We use Spotify for music in the office. Really don't want investors walking in to songs like f*** you by Cee Lo. Also having a song suddenly start swearing about something inappropriate in the background while on a phone call can be quite off putting and come across as unprofessional.

I hope this feature includes blocking profanity from ads. Nothing like listening to a Disney playlist only to be interupted by F-this F-that. Doesn't seem like this is very high on Spotify's TO DO list, as they have been directing people to this thread for almost 3 years now. I guess I will be switching to a different music service for the time being.

It is not high or low on their list. They have obviously chosen not to
do it all... as it would only take a couple of days to program something
like that. I think they are making a "we WILL force you to listen to
this type of language you prudes" type of decision. It's obvious it can
be done easy, and it is obvious many people want it. But people like to
push their world view on others, and I think that is what this is
about. I listen mostly to a competitor now, and I won't pay the money
for premium with Spotify.

As per all the prior comments, the use of explicit lyrics has a place but in many instances is inappropriate. The lack of this basic, much requested and long overdue option restricts where spotify can be used.

Thank you Google. #spotifynsfw #spotifyfail

Honestly, I recently heard a song included in the workout collection that was so disgusting that for the first time ever I thought censorship might be a good idea.  I gave my 14 year old a Spotify membership so he could explore and develop his musical tastes.  I am not overly protective, but for young listeners there is such a thing as too far.  Simply, I will be looking for a service that provides a way to filter identified explicit songs.  And when I find it, I will be switching.  Spotify this is easily within your technological ability.  We want it.  Hear us.
