[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Wow.  Just saw the Spotify family pricing.  How does Spotify expect to compete charging $30 for a family of five when Apple charges $15, but offers a broader more integrated ecosystem?  That's market suicide and certainly won't help your IPO hopes.

Google is charging $15 also. Incredible...more features for a lower price.

I did it. Just cancelled my subscription and am trying Apple Music. You should too.

I almost forgot why I haven't been into these community forums for spotify in a long time..

because everytime I read something that has high kudos factor ... and seems like a "why the f**k didn't this get implemented" type request or complaint.. I just feel more and more pissed off at spotify.

I forget that because I've been staying with the older desktop version and contented with the frozen in time view of the thing, that spotify really does suck at respoding to feedback, and at implementing features for which they said was their primary reasoning for the re-write after 1.0.9.x

And seeing the other comments, I may have to look at the other options too, though something like apple would be an immediate no because of the pig that itunes is as an app in and of itself.

Amazon's music app bs also has some refinement issues

Hi everyone,
I just noticed there is an email address that we can start writing directly to rather than just talking to each other in here.
office@spotify.com

I have just sent the following email to them.
I encourage you all to start writing to them.

Hi Spotify Team.

You recently sent email promos to see if I would like to sign my family members up to Spotify.
I wouldnt do this because there is no explicit content filter available and far to  much of the contemporary music has pretty fowl language.
I cant even use these playlists in our workplace as you end up having songs with F*** you several times, and Mother F***er  and many more.

I know you have a user community where you ask us to put up suggestions like an explicit filter,  which I did join in the discussion. I was pretty amazed to see the suggestion was made a couple of years ago and after thousands of posts and kudos, nothing has been done about it.

Im really not sure why you wouldnt do this?

I do like spotify and am a premium member, but this one factor really lets it down.

All I want is the option to tick a checkbox that says 'worksafe' or similar so that it doesnt play songs with explicit lyrics.

Please do include an explicit filter - otherwise it isn't something we can listen to in the house around the kids.

Or give the option for 'radio edit' playlists.

PS Under the family subscription this filter would, ideally, be something you could select for each user.

I wrote to office@spotify.com and got a real human response. That is a start! Hi there Brian, Thanks for reaching out to us. We understand you're writing to us about the content in our catalog. We'll get this figured out. Spotify does not censor music; we make it available in whatever form it’s given to us by the artists or labels. Often, they provide both an “explicit” and a “clean” version of an album. Currently, ticking an option to filter only work safe content is not available. We’ll be sure to pass your suggestion onto the right folks here at Spotify. But to find all versions of an album: Open the Spotify app on your computer. Search for and open an album page. If other versions are available, More Releases will show below the final track. We're always testing things by adding or removing features to make Spotify better overall. We can't say if or when any specific features will be back. But as soon as we’ve got anything to announce, we’ll let everyone know over on the Spotify Community. Let us know if you’ve got any other feedback. All the best, Dominic Spotify Customer Support

I sent an email to them tonight too. 🙂

Lets all start sending emails requesting a worksafe mode. (Rather than sounding like we are trying to get them to censor music which they wont do)
