[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I've followed this thread for a while. It is apparent that the company's reason has something to do with an aversion to 'Censorship'. If true, this is a seriously juvenile misconception of Censorship.

CENSORSHIP would be to disallow users from listening to particular songs for some reason.

Allowing users to filter explicit is no different from allowing them to select R&B over Country or prefer upbeat over mellow. Since the "explicit" nature of songs cuts across genre, there is a distinct need for a dedicated setting.

Alas, though, while the hyper-sophisticated ideologue control this decision, its not likely to happen. So, I'm out; not looking back and unsubscribing this thread.

Fare-thee-well, Spotify. May your leadership outgrow this pitiful oversight.

I would love this feature.

You may not agree with 'censorship' but as a paying member I believe I should have the control of what I hear.  And I do NOT want to hear, nor want my kids hearing, swearing on the music I play on Spotify.  May well be time for a move to another streaming service.

I made the move to Google Play. The interface isn't as user friendly, but
the algorithm does a better job of predicting music I like. Also there is
less emphasis on pushing certain featured artists.

Google play offers a feee month to help get you acclimated. They also
offer an explicit filter. Bye Spotify.

I will cancel my membership I think. I expected this feature was mandatory.

I really like Spotify. But I HATE hitting pause every time my kids walk into the room. I won't allow them to have Spotify on their devices since there is no ability to filter out explicit content. Is protecting my 6, 9 and 11 year old kids from hearing profanity laden songs really such a bad thing? Get this done already! This has been discussed for YEARS!

They're not doing it. Apple music is...

Message to Spotify. If you ignore your customers they will go away.

They ignore this forum. You need to give poor review on their apps in your local App Store.

Ideally clean/radio edits would automatically be substituted for explicit versions of songs on albums or in playlists if they were available.  I know this would require a lot of metadata if it's not already stored behind the scenes.
