[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

they pretty much ignore every method of communications.. I've tried these forums, twitter and email and never get any responses about Family Plans (in Canada) or an Explicit filter.

I also need to be able to restrict the kids in my family account from accidentally playing explicit music.

I am also closing my spotify service.

Hi Spotify,

When will we see this feature added?

Looks like it was requested in 2012......

Google Music has the feature, and with young kids in the house, if we can't filter out explicit songs, our premium family account will need to move to Google Music.

I'm getting tired of running to change the track when an explicit song comes on.

Would be very useful at WORK to block explicit songs!

Where is the solution?

Not saying eliminate all explicit music, because I enjoy listening to that at home... but if we had the option block that kind of music while kids are around, that would be awesome.

Hi, you are losing customers to Apple Music without the explicit filter feature.

Or you could integrate Spotify into iOS Restrictions, that's a much better approach!

Hey folks....   Spotify just isn't interested in allowing you to choose to filter what is offered to you.  If you email support staff, you get some gibberish about "censorship", and that Spotify just plays what the artists provide to them.  Well, this is ridiculous.  Other services offer explicit AND clean radio versions of songs.  Other services allow you to skip explicit content on radio and/or playlist feeds.  Spotify does not want you to have a choice.

This doesn't work for me for several reasons.  Sometimes, I want to stream content in presence of family.  Sometimes, I want to stream tunes in a work environment.  Sometimes, I just want to enjoy a clean version of a song without feeling dirty or drug through the mud.  So, I'm canceling my premium subscription.

First, however, I signed up for Google Music.  Same price at $9.99 per month.  I can go to $14.99 per month and add up to six family members.  Google  Music allows me to skip explicit content, and offers both clean/explicit versions of most songs.  I proved it by taking my Spotify library and building out my Google Music song library prior to canceling Spotify.  I didn't find a single song that Spotify had available exclusively.  I moved my entire library to Google Music.

Vote with your dollars.  Give the app a bad rating at your app store.  Spotify doesn't care about what you think.  This issue is years old.

Adios.
