[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

great reply there. Im glad you have been clear with what google music is
offering as it gives us more confidence to make the change.
Spotify has proven themselves to be arrogant enough to not need to listen
to listeners feedback unfortunately.

I will also be looking into google music and ditching spotify. (Ive been
impressed with all the other google products out there)

I posted on this thread around three weeks ago and since then I have had more than 70 e-mails alerting me about further posts all asking for the same thing. The fact that this has gone on for years would imply that Spotify doesn't really care about the valid points everyone on here has raised.

I'm yet to see anyone asking for Spotify to 'censor' music, though that is always the irrelevant stock response to e-mails on the issue. We all simply want to be able to continue enjoying our music in environments where explicit songs in playlists are simply not appropriate, be that around young children in my case or workplace settings for others.

I've been a Premium customer for around 13 months and love Spotify but as my son grows up (he's now two) I just don't want to have to pre-check every playlist for explicit content. I'm writing this while listening to my free trial of Google Play Music. The first thing I did was to click the 'Block explicit songs in radio' box - it took five seconds to find. It's not perfect but it's more than Spotify is willing to provide. Over the next day or so I am going to explore the service further and if it's good then I will be leaving Spotify.

I will do so with real sadness as in almost every other respect I am a big fan of the service but the tin-eared nature of the company on this is just bizarre. Here are thousnds of  customers, many of them delivering significant margin by belonging to the Premium tier, being ignored when asking for a perfectly reasonable feature that is available on competitor platforms. As I say, it is simply odd commercial behaviour.

Wow, I'm going to have to shut off notifications for this thread, I'm getting too many, and most do little more than simply echo the OP and announce their departure.

Spotify, I can only give 1 Kudo and spread the word.  Pay attention to the number of premium users for which this is clearly a deal-breaker, and get this done!

Please add a "block explicit songs" setting ASAP!!  I can't use spotify at work or anytime I'm with my kids!!

I am voting with my wallet. Until this is implemented, I will stick with other services that provide this function

This is marked a a good idea by Spotify but with no plans to implement at the moment.

It is currently the third highest requested feature.

How can this not be on the development roadmap already? As many others have said - it can't be that hard to skip tracks marked as explicit.

It would also be nice if the option could replace explicit songs in playlists with the clean version if available.

I pay for Spotify because it allows me to listen to the music I want to. Unfortunately it doesn't allow me to listen to it the WAY I want to. If I don't want to listen to explicit lyrics then give me an option not to. If this problem isn't solved soon then they will lose my subscription because I don't want to spend my money on songs that I can't listen to everywhere and anywhere and feel comfortable.

Why is this even a debate ? For the past 3-4 years your customers have been asking for this. Why not give listeners the choice ? What is it that makes this so hard to understand? I am so tired of listening to those 3-4 words on a constant basis + I have kids who love music, they just don't use Spotify for that very same reason.

The fact that people applaud the fact that Spotify has 'marked it as a good idea' is hillirious. You have been sitting on this problem for years.  Sort it out.

This is a must have. I usually play spotify at my gym and we can't use it because of the explicit songs and commercials. Please give us an option to keep it clean.
