[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Seems like a very easy thing to add... Why does it take so long?

Bmozisek

I see a lot of you are still questioning why it takes so long.  Spotify doesn't care.  People are still signing up.  At least one person previously mentioned that they would be happier customers, no mention of unsubscribing.

Spotify is more concerned about the spectre of censorship.  and if people are not talking with their money and with bad reviews/negative publicity, nothing it going to change.  I cancelled my spotify membership a couple of months ago. and told them why.

if you want this, you have to go to one of their competitors.  I will not use even the free version of spotify.  Walk away,  give negative reviews, give negative tweets.

At this point, even if they implement it today, I'm not coming back.  Screw them.  and Just for fun, here are some of the lyrics they allow on their music servic, but I'm sure they will be censored here:

"Loft Music"

They say my brain melting
And the only thing I tell em
Is I'm living for the present
And the future don't exist

So baby take your clothes off
A chance like this
You may never get to show off
Show off, show off
What you talking about
I see you like to tease, baby
And in reality you don't know how to please, baby
Blue ball queen
Take your **bleep**ing seat, baby
Or ride it out now
I know you wanna scream "baby"

(I'm) better than your next man
And if you're swingin'
Like you're dumber than the next man
Cause I don't play
Unless it's keys
Then I play all day
You like em keys?
We gonna play all day
White dream
Fry your brain all day

I think you lost morals, girl
(What?)
But it's okay
Cause you don't need em where we're going
In that two floor loft in the middle of city
After rolling through the city with me
I promise you gonna see
That I'm only **bleep**ing 20, girl
Amnesia put your mind in a dream world
What you doing in the bathroom?
I hear noises in the bathroom
Baby, it's okay
We can do it in the living room
Just some terms in em
The only girls that we **bleep** with
Seem to have twenty different pills in em
And tell us that they love us
Even though they want a next man
And the next man's **bleep** want a third man
Eddie Murphy **bleep**
Yeah, we Trade Places
Rehearse lines at them
And then we **bleep** faces

Yeah, we know just how to get a buzz
Mix it with the hash
Come **bleep** with us
I'm raw, mother**bleep**er, I'm raw
Love so lost
Then my niggas
Man, these bitches can't touch what we got
If they want it
I'll plug any **bleep** that I step
And I got em, yeah I got em
Till the ending of our credits
Life's such a movie
Filmed independent
Us against the city
Please don't get offended
When we don't answer your calls
And if you got a problem
Come and find us, we can talk
About it
What's good, young ho?
You about it?
Got a loft right now
You excited
You excited

(What you thinking about?)
(What you thinking?)
(What you thinking about?)

Great idea to have the option to not listen to explicit songs, or could spotify make the radio edit of songs available as well?

99Joanna
Can only think that the decision makers at Spotify are techno geeks that have low EI and can't put themselves in the mindset of the Customer?

Whatever, it's stopping them from getting to the next level of mass customers, it's making ones they've got irate and it's also failing on expectations as you expect a tech company to be early adopters of tech innovations and to move fast?

Makes you think they are still working in their bedroom office with numerous computers to hand as they programme away all day...

Not yr Bill Gates anyway in terms of community spirit. Come on Spotifiers!!

What happened to Customer feedback and being on top of Customer needs with good customer care?

Going to move to Google Music.. I already use Google for other things so it will be one less login to remember..

It'd be nice to disable explicit lyrics when listening to an artist Radio station or playlist without having to worry about the kids hearing. Premium membership should at least provide the feature.

Please add explicit filter. This is ridiculous.
SuperSonicxoxo

As a few stated before, Spotify doesn't care enough to implement this feature ever. Could be not enough noise or some technical difficulty or simply too expensive for them to make it happen.  Whatever the reason is, I respect their business decision.  However, with so many other music streaming options out there, I uninstalled Spotify on my desktop.  I may kieep it longer on my phone as I would like to see how it works with Starbucks app as I spend enough time regularly at a local Starbucks or when traveling.  Once I have enough fun, I will prob uninstall it.  Trying to slim down my phone with less APPs. LOL That being said, Spotify is a great app/service.  I will miss it a little.

In the meantime, I use a few others sevices already on my devices (too many choices) so no hard feelings here.  I personally preferred great music without all the explicit content!!!  I simply don't see to need to fill our world with them.

I like running but I don't want to listen to pornophony, Two mornings in a row, i have just turned my music off because I don't want to listen to some inadequate bragging about his sex life or frustration at not having one. I'm 51, married with four children. I love running but HATE having to listen to garbage. With my phone stuffed in my back pocket, it isn't easy to skip to the next track and since I'm an "unlimited" user, I don't even think I have this option. I'm certainly NOT going to upgrade, judging by the standard of the music in the running playlists anyway. Please can we have this button that gives us the option of NOT playing "adult" themed / "explicit" music. Teenage  angst is bearable. I don't consider myself narrow-minded, I just don't find filth that conducive to a great workout, Thanks!

I can't listen to my favorite playlist ('t Koffiehuis) at home, which plays Coffeehouse kinda music. All because of Ella Eyre's rather explicit and continuous "Let the mother**bleep**er burn" scattering through the livingroom. I'm trying to raise a couple of children minding their language and the absence of such functionality isn't helping in the process.

This can't be this difficult to implement, right? Account related (master) configuration with the option to locally override ..

.. as the original idea-post is from ("back in") ‎2012-02-18!!
