[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Having read through some of the 147(mobile) pages dating back to 2012 I cannot believe the feature hasn't been implemented. I have a premium account and play music with my family, only to find a simple Pop Chart playlists suddenly start blaring out swear words and demeaning lyrics. That's fine for adult listeners but surely an explict content switch cannot be that hard to implement?
I'm glad I found this thread and learnt that Apple Music offer this feature as I will be cancelling at the end of my next billing cycle to give Apple a try.

Please add a "no explicit" content button! I really don't like hearing it. That was my favorite thing about Apple Music.

I agree with this suggestion! I listen to rap in the shower, and my kid asks later, 'Mom why are you listening to music that says the F word?" Totally agree. Great rap doesn't have to have the F word or the P word,  or the N word!

Same at work. I listen in my office and don't need my coworkers hearing the P word, etc.

Follow up. I am a premium member. I pay for the service.

This idea is more than just a dainty idea. It's legit. It's like.. oh yeah let's turn that awesome Spotify playlist on, oh wait, there's cussing in it, guess that won't work.

There is music for every moment. Except when your kids are around. Except when your co-workers are listening. Except when others are around you want to be respectful of. Wondering how much Spotify actually cares. They don't have a great reputation as it is.

What is the use of tagging music explicit without being able to filter on that tag?

People don't generally pick one song at a time... they listen to radio/playlists/albums.

When spotify drops the F-bomb on me in front of my kids, it doesn't help to look at the tag and see that the song is explicit... we already know it's explicit.

Just put up a checkbox in settings saying "filter explicit"  Default it to "off" if you want.

If your developers tell you that this is more than a half day task, they are lying.

You've done the work to mark explicit songs, now PLEASE do the non-work to make that useful.

Absolutely need the ability to filter on explicit language - globally, not song by song.  I've got to drop my premium subscription if I can't control that in front of little ears.  Why wouldn't the custmer have the right to choose their preferred settings?

I like to listen in my office, but can only listen to playlist due to bad language.  Would be great if we could turn those songs off and on.

MelinTX

Yes, please! It's gotten to where I can't play it n the car when my kids are with me. I've joined the Premium service but will discountine for this very reason. It'll be a waste of my money if I can't play the channels due to the f-bombs.

Not having this option is making me look elsewhere.  I finally decided to give Spotify a try, but after several mad dashes to hit "NEXT SONG" and then having to explain to a small child (5yr old) that most of the lyrics he just heard are inappropriate and will get him in trouble at school, I think I will move on.  This is a shame as I really enjoy the selection and was willing to buy a year.

According to this thread, this has been requested since 2012.  Spotify will not implement it. Time to give someone else our money.  Or prove me wrong, implement it and take my money  🙂
