[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I would like to be able to control this from the primary account on a Family Plan as well, to prevent a family member (my child) from stumbling into explicit language songs.

I'm surprised this hasn't been done, seems like it'd be easy to implement.

  • I've been waiting for an easy way to take out explicit content and it still hasn't happened. So many people ask for this! Pandora has a one button fix for this problem. So many of your play lists have explicit content and I don't want to hear it! MAKE THIS HAPPEN SPOTIFY!!!! PLEASE!

I've switched to Google. On my run this morning listening to a running radio playlist. there was not a single swear word or any inappropriate lyrics for an early morning run. Unlike when I last ran with spotify. I can only imagine spotifys problem is they don't control the content and are reliant on the music provider to tag the content as explicit and they are worried that they will get castigated/sued if someone has switched on the filter but gets an inappropriate song played. There cannot be a sensible technical reason why the feature has not been implemented by now. Anyway for me I'll now be a Google subscriber.

I'd like to get the PREMUIM package for my work but will stick with the FREE one for listening at home because there is no button showing if playlists carry explicit lyrics (unlike itunes) or the option to skip the songs unsuitable for all.  Shame as I love listening to the playlists!

Just another parent cancelling a family subscription after being assulted with filth in front of the kids. A rather diminishing experience - goodbye. Put in a button or explain why not

I am angry with spotify. After several years of complaints let us now throw the correct words into the ring , because there is a responsibility on all parties to protect children, and the words are - child abuse. My children were confused and hurt by what they heard on spotify. I can protect them in future now that I am aware that this can happen. Spotify can help protect other children by providing a simple way to filter filth and by making it known that children need protection from some elements of their service, especially when providing family packages. All I can assume is that there is some hidden agenda on Spotifys part  by allowing this dangerous and damaging situation to continue for so long while making their product ever more appealing to vulnerable children.- my little girl was using lyrics to learn to read!!!!..- and I was not aware of the danger. As I said. Spotify, I am angry---

Almost 1,500 posts requesting the ability to filter out inapproriate content from active users and this still hasn't been done?!?!  Clearly Spotify does not care AT ALL about its customers and what they want.  I am currently a Premium subscriber with a renewal coming up very soon and I definitely will not be renewing until this sorted out and Spotify shows us that it at least doesn't hate its customers, because that I feel it is right now.

Every other streaming service has this feature!  EVERY SINGLE ONE!  What the heck Spotify.

Hi all, I'm still using #SpotifyExplicitButton for this on twitter - I'd encourage you to do so too - every time there is a new software release with no button, I'm tweeting *at*SpotifyCares asking why it's not been done yet. The more people do it, the more likely they are to actually do something about it.

It's so easy to do - they already recognise it Explicit tracks, all they need to do is give a way of excluding them. Don't let them get away with it - tweet your views.
