[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I listen at work and around family. I will cancel my subscription and go with another music service if this is not fixed.

Hi jkhinclkleyphat,

I think you should cancel. They won't likely be fixing this one anytime
soon -as they have been sitting on this request for a couple of years now.
I really believe their whole philosophy is no censorship and they are
forcing it on their users by not allowing this simple feature. Great
product, lousy management.

I was just starting to use and enjoy Spotify. But if this feature isn't getting any traction, I may have to find other options. I'm so tired of the language and I can't use this around my children.

It's not about censorship. Censorship is making choices for someone else regardless of their relationship or preferences. This is about  being able to make choices about what I choose to hear or not hear for myself and my family. I think most of the people asking for this don't care about what other people choose to play. Enabling a method to filter out the playing of songs in our queue labeled "Explicit" would be something that many of us would appreciate.  Don't get me wrong, I love my some dirty filthy old school rap (NWA) from time to time.

I finally found out how to filter explicit songs off my playlist. Google
play and Apple music both do this!

I can't believe Spotiy hasn't addressed this yet.  I can't listen to this at work now and I personally don't want to hear songs with explicit lyrics.

So, it is now April 2016 and there still is no easy way to disable explicit lyrics on Spotify?

It's been a good run with Spotify, but here is another Premium customer cancelling due to lack of action on this issue.  As much as I hate to say this, I am now an Apple Music family plan subscriber.

Looks like Spotify are more interested in the success of Apple and its other competitors than its own success. Competitors couldn't buy such good advertising or hire better recuitment agents than spotifys' incredible attitude to the obvious.

I cancelled Spotify and went to Google Music. Costs me a little more, but my WHOLE FAM gets it AND they have an explicit filter! 30 days free to try.
