[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

How is that censoring an artist? It's giving the consumer the choice on what they want to hear. I could create a playlist of non-explicit lyrics but sometimes I want to explore new music through their Discover Weekly lists. Not having to hear some drop the F bomb in front of family would be nice.

That had been Spotify's official response to any request. I don't agree
and the only reason I stay on this thread is to make sure people know
Williamgurney
We shouldn't give up... We should continue to ask... All of us!
Also IMO using the "filter" word substantiates their position... It's not a filter, it's a preference.
I'm actually considering a new tactic to get their attention to this request... An organized, public boycott. Something that gets so much attention on social media it would hurt their image and shareholders in Q4 of their financial year unless they make it available. Consider it the people petitioning Spotify.
The questions is can we get enough followers to support such a motion? Can we get enough shares and likes on Facebook, Twitter etc. Can we start a crowd fund for donations to advertise this motion in fb, Twitter etc.
I want this feature because I have young children, I know I have a ton of friends in a similar position and they would support it. I would also want to review other services out there that have this feature and help people switch if the feature isn't implemented by a deadline. If you would support such a crowd boycott, let me know and I'll start it.
Again... It's not a filter... It's keeping my children's innocence for a little while longer and Spotify has an ethical standard to uphold.

@WilliamGurney,

I believe there are sites that allow anyone to start up a kind of online
digital petition. I don't know how those work, though, or if it would
actually get Spotify's attention. Frankly, I've been subscribed to this
thread for longer than I care to disclose in hopes of receiving good news
at some point. All I've seen are hundreds of comments begging for a very
reasonable feature that Spotify dismisses for no good reason.

I've seen people drop their Premium accounts as a way of trying to tell
Spotify that they won't pay for a service that doesn't provide what they
want. However, Spotify still makes money off the free service with the ads
they broadcast, so I suspect they don't care much for people leaving the
premium service.

I have personally left scathing reviews of Spotify on the Google Play and
Apple App stores explaining that Spotify is a great service, but cannot be
given a better rating because they lack this very basic feature.

In short, nothing has worked.

I have gone back to using Pandora at work, on the road, and at home. I
will be exploring Google's option soon enough, though.

It's honestly just dizzyingly stupid of Spotify to not implement a feature
so frequently requested.

Agree that nothing has worked... So far! But this feature request is buried in this message board and single voices do not over throw governments.
One person dropping service is nothing... Not even a blip on a radar.... Not even if 20 people have done it... It needs to be organized. The point of a public boycott is that you get thousands of people dropping on the same day... And not just dropping premium but switching service completely. They get no premium revenue, no ad revenue and they get a noticeable drop in active monthly users... Something that if timed with their Q4 earnings report would hurt their business!
Would you share such a motion with your friend network for maximum effect?

This has the most requests and comments out of any idea and there has been no movement on this.  #boycott

I don't want to use them anymore if they don't act on the most commented on and requested idea that involves protecting kids from explcit language.  #boycott

I apologize. My previous message came out wrong. I'm not trying to convey
a defeatist attitude or promote resignation of any kind.

I absolutely would share this idea with everyone I know and do my best to
promote it. I am fully supportive of trying anything that may actually
work. I just know that this needs to gain some serious (and I mean
SERIOUS) traction for it to have any effect on Spotify, let alone overthrow
their apathy.

If anyone on SPotify is reading this, by the way, I support this idea for
the same reason I'm sure other will. That being - to make Spotify a better
product.

Gotcha Bmozisek. I thought you were offering your position on the topic and not what Spotify has said (I didn't have a chance to read through every response).

It's sad that Spotify doesn't want to allow users this choice.

For what it is worth, the lack of this feature is why i canceled my spotify account my my wife and myself.
