[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

You are lucky. I have wanted to try Pandora for years but we can't get it in the UK, and can't even contact them to ask them to come here. It's such a shame.

It's good to know, though, that IF we were ever able to get it there would be a better level of control over explicit content. I can only hope, but probably in vain.

PeterJW wants to know how Apple compares to spotify - Like comparing a rose to a dead rat under the cupboard where the stink is liable to waft out at the worst possible moments. Apple is new, and generally has some faults but has a complete media list with proper user control, their (proper) family plan is cheaper and since I took out a subscription I and my children and guests have been breathing fresh air.

As a high school teacher it would be really nice to be able to play the teen pop station however half the songs are explicit. If there was a feature to skip explicit songs then I could use that playlist. (or you don't have explicit songs in a TEEN playlist).

I was frustrated before I found this page.  Now I am just angry that Spotify are tracking this idea rather than acting on it.  What are they waiting for?  A parental riot?  Such a basic ask for a service where I spend 10 pounds a month.  If another service offered this I would switch in a heartbeat. And I will switch in a heartbeat

I hope this will come with an update soon. My 7 yo managed to mistype something and got some rather disturbing result that luckily I intercepted before she got to read some of the horrible names of those"songs"... I cant even begin to understand that such horriffic content exists outside hell...

....and that is spotifys' idea of heaven....

Seems like Spotify's Live Ideas is a place where good ideas go to die. As a developer myself I can say this would be an easy and hugely useful thing to add. Why has it not already been added?

Waiting with bated breath to see what happens when this reaches 5,000 kudos. 4,737 right now.

Getting closer every day.
