[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Now that Spotify is offering a Family Account (14.99/ up to 6 users) similar to Apple Music, having a parental control/explicit filter is 100% necessary!

Spotify Premium for Family

There are plenty of times when it is not appropritate to play explicit songs. Around children, at work, at family gatherings, in a public space where people with diverse background and preferences may listen.  When I simply don't -ing want to.

The service already tags explicit songs, so getting a filter should be an easy fix. Why is this taking over four years?

I'll get a paid subscription when this is implemented.

I've been hanging on the free version of spotify for a couple years now, and checking out other services, too... Spotify is my favorite, but the only thing holding it back is the lack of filtering out explicit songs. I'm fine when I'm listening alone in a room, because I can just skip it at that point, but do not feel comfortable listening to spotify in public or around my kids. The song is labelled "explicit" right there on the playlist, why is it so difficult to just auto-skip those? Make it happen, and I will sign up for a premium account that same day.

Got another "Family Plan" offer today.  Thought I'd check to see if I can really add my family this time. From the looks of it, the answer is still no. Spotify, you need to fix this!  Not having a way to block explicit material from my kids is rediculous, especially for a paid service.  With other music services out there I'm seriously considering leaving. My boys love music. It's a shame I can't get give them their own Spotify account because I can't prevent explicit lyrics.

Please fix. At least on Apple Music I can restrict explicit music. If this doesn't get better, then I'm jumping ship. Sorry. But can't let my kids be exposed to that as a responsible parent.

They have been "working" on this for four years. Don't say you'll jump ship.
Just jump ship. Actions speak louder than words.

Stop considering to leave. Just cancel your membership. Actions speak louder than words.

Leave - but keep up the pressure. Spotify prides itself on the use of "data" (thats us and everything we do) to provide the ultimate listening experience to the most people and uses playlists to push their ideas of what they think you should be listening to. Wonderful!  But how many responsible parents are there that have not even become "data" because they just dont think it worthwhile to object? How many are shifting to services without even giving Spotify a chance? Any company that flies in the face of public opinion. even those that can strut the stage of present superiority, is ultimately not going far. Spotify is up against a groundswell of responsible adults trying to protect their children in an age when they have enough challenges that these same parents did not need to face,- and paid subscribers that resent having their choice removed. Children today have many challenges that many parents do not even understand, and for spotify to deliberately add to these problems using the very technology they boast about so much - well, SHAME to you, Spotify. It is obvious that the lack of a filter is not a misunderstanding on spotifys part of social norms, but a deliberate attack on these same expectations.

jacobsato, I understand what you are saying. It is a do it or don't do it-
just quit talking about it. Quite a few people would like action. What do
you suggest? Obviously we want to stay with Spotify for some or many
reasons. What we would really like is for for the ACTUAL developers to read
at least a few pages of this thread and come to their senses and fix this
problem.

Personally I have been working on Playlists for 3 years I really do not
want to give them up. And from what I have read it is presently not an easy
process to move them over to another streaming company, also security may
not be tight enough -beta. But I really do not know for sure. Anyone with
experience, would love to know how hard or easy it is.

I have posted suggestions on this thread to no avail. My suggestion of
Contact tech support often about it, those who use Twitter or other social
media mention the 4 year old problem. Spotify wants to sell a family plan
but will not plan for the family. somthen ain't rite.
Do we do a snail mail campaign to the Board or the NY office? Does anyone

The energy for this is reaching cosmic mass and we still need to give it
energy - if we do not make an effort now it will be too late.
