[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Glad I didn't pay for this service.  I really like it but there's no way I'm going to keep using it if I can't filter explict lyrics.  I was so close to pulling the trigger to get this, glad I found this huge oversite first.  Back to Apple / Google Music.

Why is this marked as solved when its not?

bobbycrook1
I noticed it was marked as solved too. As an update, before I posted a
comment on this board, I contacted spotify and someone got back to me
straight away which was great, however it was a very generic answer which
wasn't helpful. I replied back saying that if they only offered single
accounts then I could sort of understand, however I have the "family" plan
and that includes 2 children, so to be honest I expect this feature to be
included under this plan......I never received a response, shame! They must
loose quite a few customers this way !

I believe the "solution" is to go to another streaming service

Hope someone from spotify can comment but wont hold my breath ha ha

Like many others, I would like to echo why I think an explicity filter option is a good idea.

  1. Family gatherings.
  2. Use in businesses where it would be offensive and/or unprofessional to have explicit lyrics playing.
  3. Use with children or youth -- whether allowing your child to listen to your spotify, while babysitting, teaching a class, having an event, etc.
  4. And yes, for some of us, it is about trying to avoid offensive content. Spotify playlists are a great way to discover music, but some of us don't want to have to hit skip every time something super negative and often derogatory starts playing in our ears.

Hmmmmm..... We use Spotify in our business for our overhead speakers. "F this" and "F that" is not a good environment to cultivate our clients trust and establish lasting business relations. I personally am NOT bothered by swearing or dystopian ideals within songs, but I do not know if my clients are. It would be in Spotify's best business sense to follow the overwhelming request and need for this feature. Your valuable subscribers are jumping ship due to non-response and a carefree mindset when it comes to their feedback. Offering a filter option for practical use with children, businesses and anybody that has a general dislike for profanity could prove useful in maintaining a lasting listener relationship. As you are well aware, there are plenty of healthy choices when choosing the proper Media streaming service. They are ALL on the same page when it comes to explicit content. Please take into consideration the needs of your clients, as they are THE ONLY reason your company is in existence, hemorrhaging millions of dollars, but still in existence.

This is a no brainer Spotify you need to step it up because competition is getting fearce !!!

This would be infinitely useful and should be part of the family plan. If my kids are going to  have access to music Id like to make sure there are no explicit lyrics. For now we will use Pandora with the kids until Spotify gets this fixed.
