[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I've came across a problem with a particular song: Think About You by Guns and Roses has been marked as explicit. I know that GnR and even the album the song is in isn't exactly kid friendly, but explicit markings are for individual songs and what's weird is that a song about a guy thinking about his girlfriend while they're separated (yes, that's it) has been marked explicit. I know the word high is said once, but a couple of F bombs are dropped in Whiplash by Metallica and nobody beat an eye. What I'm saying is that a song with the same message as Oh, Sherrie by Steven Perry shouldn't be marked as explicit.

For me I totally agree with you, for us it's just that we have children
that enjoy music but are too young for swearing but your right, they
wouldn't even know what "high" was referring to utilise would certainly
pick up swear words BUT.......it's OK because on the "FAMILY PLAN" there is
an option to filter out explicit songs..............oh............hang
on...........NOPE I forgot, it's google play music that have used some
common sense with their family plan.
You know what makes me laugh, spotify is really good but I've just
cancelled my family plan and stuck with Google music. It's a shame when
companies don't care !

Spotify do care - but not about children

OK, no choice but to use Pandora until they add an explicit (or radio version)  filter. Really? The the "N" word blasting with my 2 year old in ear shot? (OK, too funny that I typed that word out and when it posted, they'd changed it to "bleep"! They'll happily filter a post but not create a way for us to filter music?!?) We're not just talking potty mouth-we're talking racially offensive stuff.  Not providing a way to avoid exposing ourselves and our kids to completely inappropriate language doesn't even make good business sense.

I love listing to spotify but can when im around the kids or at parents house would love to have this explicit filter.

Since Spotify will not respond or take any action to serve this obvious consumer need here, I suggest everyone message the following person on Facebook:

Seth William Farbman - Spotify Head of Marketing.

https://www.facebook.com/sethfarbman

or Twitter - @sethfarbman

Mr. Farbman was previously at the Gap, and I hope understands how users are concerned for their families and offices.

Perhaps with a few inquiries he can explain why Spotify chooses to ignore more than 5000 customers rather than provide a simple 'Filter' button.

Hello community! Spotify here. We just wanted to check back in to say we hear you but we don't have an update at the moment. You can show your support for this idea by adding your vote. We’ll update this thread when we have more info to share.

Thank you Rorey... I think.  What was the status before your update- was it also "Good idea, vote for it" or was it something else?

GCTJR

Rorey I think we all have been voting this entire time.  We vote to have a choice.  I do not mind certain language in my music but I have young children and I do not think it is appropriate for them.  This is not about censoring our artist it's about changing America.  We need to put our children in an environment so they can succeed and teaching them the correct values from the start is the most important thing we can do for them.  When they are older and the choose to listen to certain music it will be up to them to make that choice.  Regardless of what I think, If you look at the masses we all agree.  1. Do not censor  but 2. give people the CHOICE!!!  Do not delay this any further just get it done!!  Thanks!!!!

Hey Rory and everyone else,

We know spotify doesn't care a single whit about a single user on this thread.  Don't let the platitude from Rory get your hopes up.  Leave Spotify now. On November 11, 2015, Meredith posted the exact same thing and nothing has been done.  And the only update 8 months later is to tell us the same thing.
