[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

The lack of this simple feature that every other music streaming platform has completely breaks the usability of Spotify for me which is in every other way superior to every other music streaming platform in existence.

I just subscribed to Spotify as it is better than Pandora. I use music a lot in a school setting, and I'm horrified to find that there isn't a profanity filter!
I mean, I'm as anti censorship as anyone else, and personally love music that contains profanity. I don't want you to remove profanity from your content, but there are many places where it is simply unacceptable to play profane music (like at work in the presence of students) and the ability to toggle an explicit content filter in no way censors music, it simply provides me with an OPTION that allows me to actually use your service where I want to use it most..... where mt boss and the students I work with require no explicit content for liability reasons.
Why on earth is such a basic feature not part of this premium subscription service? You already have the markers for explicit content in your app, but no way to toggle them off.
This severely limits where I can use your app, and if I do not see it soon I will be, sadly, FORCED to cancel my subscription and find an alternative which will likely be less useful in every other way. But the nature of my job requires I refrain from profanity.
SPOTIFY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHY????????

Still waiting! This problem is one of the most frustating things about Spotify. Why, Spotify?! Why?! Please fix this issue.

So I just subscribed to youtube red which includes a free subscription to Google Play Music, which has all the features of Spotify, and I found actually predicted the music I would like far better, AND has an explicit content filter.

I am trying to figure out how to cancel my Spotify Subscription now. It's funny, but canceling my subscription seems almost as hard as trying to contact customer service. I'm kinda upset I gave these people any of my money at all. They seem to care far more about their narrow philosophy than listening and caring about their customers.

So far I'm loving Google Play Music. I sugest others who want the functionality of Spotify with an explicit content filter do the same.

Good bye Spotify. You are losing out on real money because of a stuburn refusal to add a simple user option to your service. Good bye and good riddens.

Please please please add this feature/option for user paid or free. Especially paid users should have the option to customize the contents to block/exclude explicit lyrics from those sensitive to "adult" language.

I just canceled my premium subscription as my 3 months trial came to an end.

Please like "Make Spotify Child-safe" on facebook and share it on your own page:

I absolutely love Spotify, and I'm very grateful that they've taken the time to mark songs as explict. I enjoy finding new music, but I simply don't want to listen to songs with explicit content. I make a point to make all my media family friendly, and so knowing ahead of time that a song won't be up to my standards is a great help. However, I would also like to be able to listen to a playlist somebody else curated without having to go and check if there are any songs marked as explicit. Would it truly be so difficult to have the option for Spotify automatically skip over those songs like it does for unavailable ones? Until this happens, I can't enjoy the majority of playlists for the risk of playing explicit content.

Why is this not already a thing?!?

I came here after searching for how to filter playlists to exclude songs marked "explicit" on Spotify. I'm absolutely gob-smacked that it doesn't exist - even more so after seeing how long people have been asking for it for! Come on Spotify - there are so many totally legitimate reasons for doing this and it wouldn't take rocket science to do! Every song is tagged if it's explicit so it's an easy filter to add. You just need to do it! The lists of reasons are already here in everyone else's comments:

• appropriateness at work - would be great to have Spotify on at work, but can't if worried about explicit stuff coming on

• kids listening to music - you don't have to be labelled a prude or straight or narrow-minded just because you don't want young kids hearing some of this f-bombing etc

• mixed company - sometimes we would like to choose if we want to filter stuff! I know my mum would be really upset hearing the lyrics/words in some songs so I'd like to have the choice about when and what I play!

Please, re-read these comments and do something about it Spotify!!

This is censorship - **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** but only for adults on this forum. Children obviously do not need to be protected

Don't forget to push this issue on other channels folks, Spotify clearly neither read nor care about this one. I'm trying to push #SpotifyExplicitButton on twitter, please do join in!
