[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

It is unbelievable that Spotify thinks its ok NOT to have a filter for explicit lyrics and still has the cheek to offer a "family subscription". It is vital that parents have the ability to filter this, and this should have been inbuilt from the start. This level of flippancy towards so many concerned parents will simply just make them unsubscribe soon.

i am so glad i did the trial.  my college aged kids tell me how great it is, BUT when i try to listen at school it's a disaster.  it is of no use to me without the option.  All three of my kids assumed it had the option when they told me to use it.  I will go with Google Play i guess.  it's a shame because i was going to use the new "Family Plan".  i find it hillarious that they call it the "family plan" when most families will have nothing to do with Spotify because of their HUGE mistake.  I have such little respect for this company and thier customer service.

Signed up to premium today to check out the full features of the app, with the intent of getting a family subscription.

No explicit song filter makes this almost impossible.

Looks like I'll be taking advantage of the 'cancel anytime' option which is a shame as the rest of the service seems great!

Disappointing.

I have moved to Google Play. More music, free, less commercials and has
option to remove explicit music. I'll check back with Spotify in a few years
to see if any improvements have been made. Just go to Google Play or iTunes
or find a favorite station on iHeart. The choices are endless.

Thank you.

I switched to google play, which is included with youtube red.

Youtube Red/Google Play has all the same features of spotify with the addition of an explicit content filter. It's the same price too, $9.99. And, as a bonus, you get add free youtube and premium youtube content as well.

I would have never signed up for Youtube Red if Spotify had an explicit content filter, and now that I did, I find it has much more value for the price. So I guess I should be thanking Spotify for their lack of service. At this point, not even addressing this issue will bring me back since add free youtube in and of itself more than makes up for a few ineligent UI issues with google play.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I just went to family plan on Google Play (6 people, 10 devices each, $15/mo).  tried it for a couple weeks and it beats Spotify hands down in every way (Especially with the Explicit Content filter).  youtube red / premium seems like it will come in handy too.  now i can use my music app at school and at events where people would think I am a total idiot if i was blasting music over a PA system with swearing in front of children.

I thought it was going to be a hard sell to get my 3 high school / college aged kids to switch over from Spotify because they loved it, but they did the Google Play trial and after a week or so they are all ready to jump ship with Spotify.

I laugh now when I think of how my kids would have probably been life-long users of Spotify, but all because of thier TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE of not addressing this Explicit filter they lost a family of 6....probably for life!!!  even if you look at the short term of having us for the next 5 years it adds up to $900 lost.

Anyway, hope you guys give Google a try...I think most of the people in this group will love it.  I'll probably keep in the group for a few weeks just to see how it's going and then by this time next year I probably won't even remember the name Spotify.

Google have it all, but lack a global filter - as far as I can work out the explicit filter works only on radio, thus pretty useless if the kids wish to explore genres freely. Perhaps it would make more sense to work on google to get what we want - might even open the floodgates for a mass exodus from spotify. Can't see that many people would feel too sorry for them if and when this occurs - but what I know is that many  many people are desperately seeking alternatives to what spotify vainly consider an irreplaceable commodity. Things can happen quickly in the digital world and hopfully spotify will soon be a distant memory. Ironic though that this forum is open and quietly receptive to any kind of blasphemy against its owner, and even though the whole focus of the debate is whether listeners are to be enabled to filter (not censor) undesirable and dangerous content the prissy little turds wont even allow you to say well **bleep** you then. That is censorship.
