[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Here is a for now solution I built. It's about the best solution I can come up with at least that works for me and hopefully it will work for you.

What it does: Makes Kid Safe Copies of Any Playlist

Why I built it this way: Then you can use any spotify app or device and this playlist will be in your user playlists. No worrying about having a special app or whatever.

How to use it.

1. Login ( you are logging in with Spotify directly )

2. You will see your playlists and then you can search or see popular playlists.

3. On the play list page click "Create Kid Safe Playlist".

4. You will see a message that it has been created ( or failed).

5. Refresh the page to see it in your playlists ( or open any spotify player to play it)

Gotchas: I built this quick - I plan on refining it ( maybe even making a mobile version - but you should be able to pull this up on your phone as well). It will fail if the playlist is too big. I haven't figured out what that limit is maybe 100 or more songs. I will fix this soon. However it will still create the empty playlist which you will have to delete.

It will create an exact copy of a playlist that already doesn't have explicit songs. If you see the number of songs in the new playlist is the same chances are it doesn't have explicit songs in it.

If this helps you out - I did put a donation paypal option. This will help pay for server fees and my continued time to refine this. But don't feel like you have to. I just wanted to get an option for everyone out there.

If you have questions you can message me

sph130 missing the point we want spotify to provide a filter for family subscriptions there is already the option of creating safe playlists manually. Why can't the kids explore for themselves? At the moment the platform is far too dangerous. I thought the music from the middle of the last century was great and remained so for several decades  but I must have been wrong because everyone didnt't say **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** all the time to sell their songs.

Oh I definitely agree, but when I'm at the lake with the family and want to
play the latest hits I don't want to keep running back to skip songs.

This fits my need here. I'm sure Spotify will take care of this soon.

"Dad I think the music is saying the F word again."

Yup. It was. Screw you Spotify. I need to be able to listen to music on my terms, not yours.

I'm leaving.

I have moved to Google Play. More music, free, less commercials and has
option to remove explicit music. I'll check back with Spotify in a few years
to see if any improvements have been made. Just go to Google Play or iTunes
or find a favorite station on iHeart. The choices are endless.

Per Spotify company policy, explicit language will not be removed.
