[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

A feature to block explicit album cover images would be great.

I really struggle to see how this can be difficult and take so long. VERY DISAPPOINTING. How can you offer a family premium service without content filtering? This is simply irresponsible. Come on Spotify sort this out quickly or I will move over to Apple.

It is not difficult and S.h.i.t.i.f.y. didn't say it was difficult. They
have taken a stance and are refusing to understand the difference between
corporate censorship and user filtering. They will not change without high
level public pressure. The is a Facebook group that is trying to bring it
more to the spotlight. There needs to be national news coverage and then
they might understand.

I'm sure that you've heard this already, but I'm repeating it to demonstrate how critically important this feature is. I have 2 kids and my whole family loves spotify. But the ONLY thing preventing us from a paid spotify subscription is the glaring lack of a "block explicit content" feature. My kids are both under 10yo, so we really can't use it without a filter as they still like pop music.

For now, our money goes to Google Music.

If I were to build a Mobile Player that plays Spotify but won't ever play
any explicit songs would you download it?
You could install that on the kids devices and it wouldn't let them play
any explicit songs and just exclude them from any play list. This app
wouldn't have an option to turn explicit songs back on so the kid couldn't
try to figure out how to circumvent it.

Lack of this feature is probably a deal breaker and will force me to go back to apple music

Please add.  I find it hard to believe this isn't already an option pretty much every other music streaming service offers this. I really like Spotify but this is a serious over site on the part of Spotify.

I have downloaded Apple music they have an explicit filter. I have a 3 month free trial if this isn't resolved by then (which I doubt it will be since this thread is 4years old) I will be switching.

You should just unistall Spotify now. It is per policy of Spotify not to
remove explicit language. I went with Google Play. The quality, selection
and price is much better than Spotify. Don't waste your time.

Unbelievable that's it's taking so long to get this done. It should have been there from Day One. It's a no brainer.

Read s.h.i.t.i.f.y's response. They have taken the stand that it is
censorship and not a user choice.
