[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Since Spotify hasn't gotten around to putting an explicit filter on the service, I will shortly be deleting our family's account. This is ridiculous in today's day and age that this option doesn't come standard.

Explicit content filter please! My kids don't need to hear songs with profanity in them while streaming in the car or otherwise... Slacker has this option, it's a no brainer.

I would love, and pay for, a parental control feature that filtered out songs with explicit language.

I have a family subscription to Apple Music and I have just started a trial with Spotify. While I really like it, the lack of an explicit filter means that it is not appropriate for my kids to use. This is a shame because I like the ability to use the web interface.

Love spotify, but now my 6-year old wants his own subscription. He's really getting into Justin Timberlake, the Strokes, Black Sabbath. This is a great awakening to music that I want to nurture. But to not have an explicit filter is such a drawback. He can't explore music in a free way since I don't want him bring bad words to school. Can't believe there is metadata for "explicit" and you can't use that as a filter. What's the real problem with doing that? It doesn't seem philosophical since you all think it's a good idea. I'm going to explore the family subscriptino to Apple Music. Boooo Spotify.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add this asap.  I love listening to new music and like to browse the "top tracks" and "new releases" playlists on Spotify and I often listen to it with my 2 year old.  More often than not half the songs repeat the "N" word over and over and over, either that or the songs are about rape, getting drunk or F**#ing.  I don't want to hear this garbage, but I also don't have time to go through every playlist and create new ones without the explicit tag.

I know this request has been repeated over and over with every release.  I've been a subscriber since beta and while I put up with it solo, now that my kids are listening with me, this needs to be added or I am going to have to re-evaulate my subscription.

aw screw it.  I give up on this.  Im back with spotify - not happy but considering dumping it after my promo period ends.

Another approach is to automatically play the clean/edited versions of a song that has explicit lyrics. The use case that interests me most is not having my 8 year repeating the more colorful hip-hop lyrics to the ex-wife (aka his mom) when he's with her.

This implementation points towards other uses: e.g., "only play the acoustic version of songs in this playlist" or "only play the a capella version".

You could call it playlist 'flavor' or 'style' or 'flair' or something else.

Please, I literally can't play any playlists when my son is in the car with me. I want to ditch terrestrial radio but this little thing is the last step...

Unbelievable that this idea started close to FIVE YEARS AGO and still there is nothing but "we at Spotify think this is still a good idea".
