[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS

A very much needed feature. Using Spotify in public schools can be dangerous and nerve racking

jumpingrabbit

Spotify, implement this feature. Please.

TheDanOne

Okay, let's be real here— why has it taken almost 5 years to finally get a feature that your biggest competitor has had since day 1?

I understand it's not a big deal to many, but I'd like to listen to a "Gaming" or "rap" playlist without having to worry about my 3yo son or daughter running around making their own freestyle raps like "f**k dat p**sy a** b***h..."

Seriously, get with the program.

Brubning

Had a New Years Eve party with family and Killing in the Name came on, awesome song, but it was the explicit version. Had to switch to Amazon Prime Music because the collated lists are generally safer.

This is a no brainer and I can't believe it doesn't exist. It would be so easy to implement! I can't leave Spotify playing in the house, sooner or later it will pay something REALLY inappropriate, and I sure can't let the older one use Family on his new Fire.

Come on Spotify.... Show us you give a...

In this day and age, this feature should come as standard to block explicit content.

Spotify are losing money from us parents/guardians as I know dozens of people who do not subscribe to music and movie apps soley because of their lack of safe guarding children.

I find it highly disappointing that what goes in your pocket is more important than what goes in our childrens head

PapaMaan

Hmmm.. I'm giving up on Spotify. Been an avid user/subscriber since the very early days and this attitude has finally become a deal breaker.

I cant let my kids roam free on the service with all the ranting about niggahs, hoes, mutha**bleep**as, bitches, homos, faggets, ass**bleep**ers.

Shame on you you punkass bitches. Shame on you.

...and have the nerve to offer a Nobel Peace Prize winner a job.

Hypocrits!!!

nuttyyetti

I am sorry, but I see that people have been asking for this since 2012.  There could be even earlier requests that I did not find.

However, why is it so hard for developers of apps to have filtered versions.  Is it because you are catering to kids that want to be able to get to explicit information?  I do not see why this is not a "no-brainer".  The technology is there.  There are sites that can gather every single public record from me, my family and friends and put it neatly into one app for whoever to see; but we cannot protect our children.  You wonder what is wrong with our world? Kids getting exposed to this kind of stuff too early and putting it in their earbuds all day long.

Please, take this seriously! We need to protect our children and their innocence.  Let them be kids, there is plenty of time for them to be adults!

Sincerely, a loving mom, tired of chasing technology that promotes indecency and secrecy!

O my word, Spotify! People have been requesting this for 5 YEARS! You've already got the "Explicit" tags, so we KNOW you can handle this from a database standpoint. So seriously, how hard could it be to implement this idea? I'm paying premium so you guys can have the money to develop BASIC functions like this one! Seriously. This idea needs a team on it yesterday!
