[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Caneling my spotify today. I used to recommend all my clients sign up for a Spotify account since it always had good integration. Now large scale control systems via Sonos playback devices have very limited functionality. Was good while it lasted. Google play all access music has the feature you're all looking for. It integrates perfectly as well with large audio distribution systems.

This is a must.  Our kids love music and what better way for them to listen then to use Spotify.  But not with no way to filter explicit music.  Come on, this can't be that difficult!

This is the only thing keeping my company from using your service. We rely on Pandora currently and would jump ship in a heartbeat if you enabled this.

I don't understand why the explicit version of songs is often the only version to choose. There are clearly radio versions of all songs, so why don't Spotify use those?

My 5 year old loves some songs but she can't listen to them on Spotify due to the swearing g.

Seems like a really easy and obviously fix. Come on Spotify, sort it out!

Nobbypingpong

5 years and on and you're still thinking about it? Seriously? This is not hard to implement as the tracks are already tagged as explicit...it's a no brainer. Time to start looking elsewhere by the looks of things...

Yes i post a second time and i reckon this company is run by "white" people. I am white myself and am not racist. I am sick of hearing **bleep** about black ni66er cumts! You really are a joke spotify. I am offended you allow speech about black and **bleep** etc.  Freedom of speech is not about insults. get it together and sort it out once and for all. Close this topic down and give us an answer once and for all!!

What is the hold up??  This is easy to do and in high demand.  Pandora has had this feature for several years.

C'mon Spotify, 5 years?  In this day and age of children using online services, this should be available by default.   Here's some free pseudocode to get you started:

if (filterExplicit = true) {
  if (isSongExplicit = true) {
    isSongPlayable = false;
  }
}

kidslikemusic2

How is this feature still not available? Especially now that you advertise a Premium for Family subscription and allow playback on Alexa that any kid can walk up and operate to play explicit content. Lawsuit waiting to happen...

Please create a method that would either edit the songs with explicit lyrics or remove them from play lists all together. I've got a famliy account...my kids have access to everything. I really like spotify but....If something's not done about this, I'll have to close my account and go somewhere else.
