[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

You need to understand, this is not a technical issue but rather a decision that Spotify has made to not offer this feature. Many people think it is a technical issue.  This is to inform you that you can uninstall Spotify and move to Google Play. or iTunes.  Both services offer more music, free, less commercials and has option to remove explicit music. I’ll check back with Spotify in a few years to see if any improvements have been made. But why sweat the small stuff. Just go to Google Play or iTunes or find a favorite station on iHeart. The choices are endless.

In the words of Niki Minaj (a song which I accidentally played at my 8 year olds birthday party): "You can eat my **bleep** like a pancake."

Spotify, if you censor any of that, you're a hypocritical company that cares nothing about its customers and all about $. I'm not asking for an outright ban on the songs, but rather a filter, so we can choose when and when not to listen to these songs.

Fyi, I left Spotify a year ago for Apple Music and they have a filter switch. I recommend everyone else do the same. There are apps to help you port over your playlists. Spotify is going bankrupt and I don't envision them doing this change any time soon.

Thanks for the suggestions on different services..I've had a good look at a few of them today, and will switch my paid Subscriptions from Spotify to Apple at the weekend. Tested it today on Android, BT streaming in car, and Sonos and it just works. I'm not an Apple fanboy, so if anyone would be looking for flaws it would be me! The explicit filter behaves just as you would expect - does not download the explicit tracks in a playlist for example. For me at least, that's a clincher - would recommend giving it a try if you're after a similar setup.

So there's absolutely no filters at all? That's such a shame as my husband and I are subscribers I'm going to  need to try and find another service for my daughter

I have just joined Spotify and have been hit with same dilemma as have young children in the family; I would hope Spotify will consider a filter for songs on request otherwise  I will also have to migrate to apple; it does make business sense as families and new younger generations will become familiar with alternative providers instead.

I think EVERYONE at Spotify should go **bleep** themselves.  What a piece of **bleep** product. I hope Trump sends you all back to where you came from.

It is interesting, I was at an education event held at our children's primary school this was on internet safety for children. This is something which is currently rolled out across our city and explicitly talks about unsafe apps etc for children both at primary and secondary level, Spotify was raised as an issue re filters. For longevity it may be in its commercial interest to consider such in the future.
