[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Stop complaining. Just uninstall Spotify, move to Google Play, iTunes, Pandora or whatever and enjoy life. This is not going to happen with Spotify.

Keep complaining. You may just help prevent even one child from being exposed to filth on Spotify family lure

this has been requested as a feature for the past FIVE years and rated as a good idea, yet not materialised?? not impressed. I'm a premium subscriber and would like to think it's possible sooner rather than later.

jmotsko

It would be great to have this feature as part of the Premium Family service so the parents can switch off explicit content for the kids' accounts only

For those of us with a Family subscription, a filter to not expose explicity lyrics to our children is needed.

Please please please can we filter explicit songs. It is ridiculous that such a sophisticated app cannot do this. My son is asking me what a p******tute is! Please change. Considering moving to a better system. Shame as my son does like Spotify just not explicit language!!

jacobsato

Please, please stop requesting this feature. Spotify management has voted not to support explicit filtering. You need to uninstall Spotify and move to Google Play or iTune. The quality is better and there is more music selection.

So true. We probably will not see this feature until Spotify management have children of their own.

World4KidsTL

We are a Afterschool Childcare Program. We have Spotify available so that children can listen to music and create their own playlists. And while we tell them not to play or select explicit songs every now and again one slips through. There's nothing like a F BOMB to silence a room quickly. A "Disable Explicit Songs" button in settings would be very helpful and certainly would help families that have the famiy premium subscription. Cheers

I have added songs that I have only heard on the radio (sans explicit words) to playlists not knowing they're explicit; this is because some explicit songs do not have the explicit tag next to them. For example, "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars contains the words **bleep** and **bleep** but does not have the explicit tag. At least a heads up would be nice and a setting that disables explicit songs would be even better. Step it up, Spotify. Your competitors are seeming more appealing everyday.
