[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

So, 5 years later, 262 pages of comments and 7500+ votes and still nothing?  If I started swearing all over your forums I bet you would either filter it our or ban me.

I know how hard it must be for you to admit you're wrong, but just arrogantly ignoring the people who actually PAY you to use this service?

I see that in your application you have toggle switches for other things, so it's not a case of having to retrain your development team.  So what's the actual reason?   What new features are you working on that more people have asked you for?  Huh?

Haha you even have an **bleep**ing explicit content filter in your forums.  So I can't actually post the lyrics of a song that you let me listen to?

I've been waiting since 2011 for an explicit filter but when I saw that there was a thread with almost 8,000 votes spanning 5 years I believe I'll be moving my family plan and my in-laws family plan over to Apple Music. $30/month won't hurt spotify a bit but I won't pay to support such a negligent provider. I don't know if there is another company like Spotify that would refuse to listen to it's customers for so long. What a distinction!

I have decided to move the family to Apple Music. Sad to go and would be willing to return if this option coms on.

Good luck

I think a better option would be to play the alternate clean version of a song when the "Explicit Off" option would be selected..

Absolutely crazy this isn't available. Many of the songs are already tagged if they are explicit or not. Really this should be a top priority for release. Just signed up for family plan, going to cancel service.

FIVE YEARS! And Spotify only answers that "oh yeah this would be good but we are lazy".

I listened to "Weird" Al radio in the car with kids and Spotify next song is a song about the word **bleep**. While my wife and I did find the song funny as it was obviously suggested due to the comedy aspect having the ability to filter out explicit content (even from your own playlist) when you need to is absolutely necessary.

Interesting enough Spotify auto censored the "F" word from my above comment. They change it to have quotations and say "bleep".

Though they can not filter out songs.

Or choose clean/radio versions.

Here's a fresh idea: Listen to your millions of customers who are looking for the CLEAN version of songs.  It's not intuitive or easy to find them.  If everyone of all ages in the family needs a tutorial on how to do this, that's a sign that it's needlessly difficult,  too hard, and too annoying. Doesn't even work half the time.  People will just switch to using youtube for free, where anyone can find all the same songs with the radio edit identified, very very easily.  I've seen a TON of posts and blogs and feedback to Spotify on this same issue.  Yet after waiting years, I have seen NO improvement from Spotify's user interface.  Get with it!

Come on Spotify... you can do better than this... can't relax when listening to a playlist with the kids unless it's one I've collated for the fear of playing F-bomb roulette... please sort this out!
